I have thought they subsidize certain stars with free throws, kept games close, and get certain players in foul trouble so they can't play defense.   I think they do this to all teams, it is a way they control a game.  I think most of us have thought what Jaylen is saying.  As a fan, all you want is consistency.

I agree with this and I think it is unethical.
It also shortens some players careers because of how beat up they are.
I wish Jaylen could convince the players association to go on strike until the referees work for the players association and not the league.
I also think a class action suit by people who bet on games to uncover all the secret emails and instructions from the league to referees would be great! The Celtics would have beat San Antonio with a reasonable amount of fair calls when people hit Jaylen.

Mazzulla was asked six questions after the 98-96 defeat in Indianapolis, and to each one, his answer was the same: "Illegal screen."

Question: Take us through the last couple of possessions?

Mazzulla: Illegal screen.

Question: What'd you say?

Mazzulla: Illegal screen.

Question: Illegal screen?

Mazzulla: Illegal screen.

Question: What fell apart to get you guys behind?

Mazzulla: Illegal screen.

Question: What do you want people to know about that?

Mazzulla: Illegal screen.

Question: Is there anything else you would like to say?

Mazzulla: Illegal screen.

Mazzulla's likely point of contention came in the closing seconds, when Pacers star Pascal Siakam set a screen at the top of the 3-point arc, causing Boston's Derrick White to lose his balance.

Siakam got the ball back from Andrew Nembhard, pump-faked and stepped inside the foul line for the high-arcing leaner that banked through with 6.1 seconds to give Indiana a victory.

The Celtics have had recent issues with officiating.

Earlier Monday, star Jaylen Brown was fined $35,000 by the NBA after he criticized the officiating following the team's loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

I assume ownership is picking up the tab, right?

He should be more concerned with Derrick White's awful 3pt shooting.

35k fine.  not as bad as I thought it might be.

A perfect end to Brown's post-game comments in front of the media members that night would have been a Sonny Corleone exit from the media room. If you recall the opening scene from Godfather during sister Connie's wedding reception, Sonny smashed a newspaper photographer's camera and then tossed money on the street to pay the damages after being angered by the intrusion of the reporters and FBI agents into a private family event.

Likewise, Jaylen could have finished off his final comment about the game officiating and anticipated fine he assumed would be coming from the league office by standing to leave while pulling out a roll of hundreds and tossing them on the floor in disgust as he walked out. Such a stunt would have increased the fine and probably resulted in a suspension, but it would have been priceless.

For the record, the NBA Last 2 Minute report backs Joe up, calling it an incorrect no-call.

Must be nice to have $35,000 be completely inconsequential.
Yup

Well he is making about $53M per year and that $35k is probably equivalent to a $100 fine to him.  I agree it must be nice!

For the record, a $100 fine would be a lot for me.  :)

BTW, I was curious so I found this on Google:

Quote
NBA player fine money is split evenly between the league's NBA Cares program and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Foundation, both directing funds to various charities, with recent initiatives allowing players to match donations through the NBPA Foundation, effectively returning funds to causes they support. This system transforms penalties into philanthropic contributions for issues like education, health, disaster relief, and youth sports, with players gaining more influence over where their money goes through matching grant programs.
Yup

Yup, the league can't keep the fines. It would create a huge conflict of interest.
