I think the Holiday trade was pretty good value and getting younger and healthier is never a bad thing.  I mean Jrue has played just 12 games for the Blazers.  I mean for a 35 year old in year 17, I'm not sure you could expect health, so I really liked that move. 

Given KP's health issues, moving off of him was also a good move, it was just the salary dump parts of that trade I didn't like.  Like sending Mann and 22 to the Nets and then later trading Niang and 2 seconds for RJ Luis. I understand why those trades were made for cap purposes, but I'd have rather kept and used 22.

I will say, if Simons actually turns into a useful player on this team and stays here beyond 2026 on a reasonable contract while producing as a 6th ish man, then the Jrue trade looks a lot better overall. I understand it was primarily for cap relief and the second apron, but yeah Jrue is also 35 and took a step back last year. His contract is also not a good one value-wise.

I agree with others though. I don't think so for Brad Stevens, but Mazzulla 100% deserves COTY recognition. Guys are still bought in, and say what you will but he seems to have unlocked something with guys like Queta, Jaylen, Walsh, etc. He's not just a cheerleader, he probably also helps in developing and coaching the guys behind the scenes. Also the rotations he's used and gone to in certain stretches have worked. I'm still not a huge fan of the 3-point philosophy but those attempts have gone down, and I'd like to think they are more willing to adapt this postseason unlike last year in the Knicks series when they died by the 3 for good

He traded away Jrue with his salary-heavy contract without having to give anything of value up. I was sure they'd have to incentivize a team to take him. He then traded KP, who has been out for extended periods of time.  Then he added Hugo, Minot, and Garza, who are all meeting or beating expectations. No, he didn't make any blockbuster moves, but they have no bad contracts control over all but two first round picks.  And they're doing better than just about everyone thought.

I'm really impressed with how Stevens has shaped this roster around Tatum being gone.

Not only did we survive losing two starters but we are thriving now.

He got some low key steals in Minott and Simons.

He also drafted Hugo Gonzalez who is very impressive in his rookie year. Most of us thought Hugo would be a euro draft stash but instead he came over right away and won a roster spot and is showing us flashes of a potential starting caliber player.

Now the question becomes what is Stevens next move. Will he move Simons for a talent who will help now or does he try to keep the band together and move other pieces around to get the big to back up Queta?

We will have to wait and see but I have a lot of confidence in Stevens to make the right move. He has done it really well so far and deserves consideration for executive of the year.

OK, I'm not sure that was ever offered directly to us.

of course it was.  We just sent it to Brooklyn with Mann in a salary dump. The trade could have been made without Brooklyn though as Atlanta acquired KP and a 2026 2nd for Niang, Mann, 22, 2031 2nd.  Boston could have just taken all of that and not included Brooklyn at all.
