Did not see the game, listened to a little on the radio. Based on the box score, happy to see Walsh get minutes (30 min) and play well (13 pts / 13 rebs / +24). Also Garza had another nice box score. Brown of course, putting up 50, wow. Did SAC double team him at all or just let him shoot? Most of the games I have seen, teams are not doubling him much (yet).
Joe is pulling all the right strings with the lineup and the team is reacting positively to whatever roles he?s giving them. They?re playing such great ball and you can see the ?buy in? level growing. Really cool thing to see develop given the expectations.
The thing I love about this team is how hard they play. They're up 27 with 3 minutes to go and still grinding on defense. No other NBA team approaches the game this way.
This is the thing I?ve been most impressed with Joe about this season?we always knew he was good at motivating a championship level team and aligning their goals in the same direction, but now he?s doing the same with what we?re all thought, and expected, would be a gap year team. In fact how many people here wanted him to tank for some future franchise draft player? He?s done a great job transforming the dregs of other teams and lower draft picks into very credible NBA role players who play hard, know their role and know their goal. I know a lot of people focus on the aspects of coaching we can see, like timeouts, subs, plays?but the aspects we don?t see (leadership, motivation, buy in, ego management) are just as important.
In fact I think his next challenge, when Tatum comes back, whether that?s this season or next, will be managing the team hierarchy, given how well JB has played this year, like a legit No1 (for at least the first third of the season). Both of them will again be required to sacrifice for the good of the team for us to ascend to the next level again, and Joe will have to figure out how to do that. But I think they listen to him.
