I hope Atlanta brings McCollum off the bench and keeps NAW in the starting lineup as PG. I love what NAW is bringing that team defensively. McCollum isn't a true PG either. So there isn't enough of an upgrade offensively to justify putting NAW on the bench.

NAW is having a great year offensively. 20ppg on solid efficiency with 8 threes attempted per night. That is the type of output McCollum would give you. So, again, no gain offensively. Not as a PG / playmaker. Nor as a scorer. Let McCollum be a microwave scorer off the bench. He is better at that than NAW. McCollum has more one-on-one ability / shot creation.

The chain of how the Wizards started with the Beal trade and turned it into Trae with a bunch of draft picks acquired along the way is kind of fascinating.
Yup

McCollum ended up as part of the trade.

I think the biggest reason for such a poor return of assets was that Trae Young had a players option next season. So Trae was in control of his destination.

No surprise that Travis Schlenk (the man who drafted Trae) is currently on the Wizards front office.

Too bad for the Wizards they cut Ryan Rollins after getting him in the Paul-Poole part of the Beal-Young chain.

I am not surprised that ATL traded Young.  They have a good young core and two really good picks this upcoming draft.  The trade itself is a surprise, I guess, but I don't think ATL had a lot of options.  They may flip McCollum, if he can get healthy, he can help a contending team I believe.

Just saw that the Washington 1st rounder this year is top 8 protected.  Otherwise, it conveys to the Knicks.

Trae Young is the Kyler Murray of the NBA.

Trae might be good enough to lift Washington out of the bottom 8. If he had a full season there, I'd be confident in him. Half a season? I don't know.

WAS are already in a hole. 10 wins 26 losses. Dallas are the 9th worst team with 14 wins. Only 4 wins apart. It is not huge. Although you would expect both Dallas (9th) and LAC (8th worst) to improve in the remainder of the season. MEM, MIL, CHI, ATL the next 4 teams (10th-14th worst). WAS should be safe with a top 8 protected pick. It is not without risk though. Only 4 wins behind Dallas. Trae can be a difference maker for them.

Nah, I take it back. I was just looking over WAS team. I don't think Trae will make much of a difference there.

G: Trae Young, Bub Carrington
G: Bilal Coulibaly, Tre Johnson
F: Kyshawn George, Justin Champagnie
F: Khris Middleton, Will Riley
C: Alex Sarr, Mo Bagley, Vukecevic

Shooting guard = So Coulibaly cannot make 3s. A bad fit off ball with Trae. Tre Johnson is a rookie. A gunner who can get buckets but does nothing else is a net negative out there. Tre is a very bad defender. So Tre and Trae together in the backcourt will be atrocious.

Power Forward = Middleton is kaput. His body is finished. He can't play defense anymore. He is only useful when the ball is in his hands. Trae will take touches away from him. Then the two backup forwards Will Riley and Justin Champagnie are both hustle guys. Will Riley can't shoot. Champagnie can shoot a little but not much.

Yeah, that team stinks. They are still bottom 5 in the league - even with Trae on board.

On the bright side, Trae Young + Kyshawn George + Alex Sarr is an interesting trio to build around. A small guard, versatile SF and a skilled two way big.
