Rumor by Jake Fischer is that the Raptors may be interested in Sabonis if they don't get Davis, but they do not want to give up Poetl.

I'm just reading between the lines here - that leaves Scottie Barnes as the odd man out. He's not a wing. He plays the 4.

I've long thought that Scottie Barnes was being misused in Toronto, but didn't really think he was available.

I realize that the Kings may be better just getting Barnes back, but they are the Kings.

In this trade proposal we send Hauser, Simons, and picks to the Kings, the Kings send Sabonis to the Raptors, and the Raptors send Barnes to us. A few smaller contracts have to be involved as well.

The Kings are a poorly run franchise, but even by their standards that's a pretty terrible haul for Sabonis. I guess if you added a few picks it might seem more reasonable.

I think Barnes is great, but still think what "moves the needle"  most for the Celtics is a solid two-way big once Tatum comes back. Followed by a strong defensive PG so teams can't exploit PP in the playoffs.

Hauser, Simons, and some crappy 1st are not enough for Scottie Barnes
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

How about this crazy big idea:

Celtics get Barnes, Ellis, Powell
Celtics trade Simons, Hauser, Scheierman, 2 firsts

Raptors trade Barnes, Agbaji
Raptors get Sabonis, 1 celtic 1st

Kings trade Sabonis, Ellis, Schroeder
Kings get Young

Hawks get Davis, Simons
Hawks trade Porzingis, Young, Risachar

Mavs trade Davis, Powell
Mavs receive Risacher, Schroeder, Porzingis, 1 Celtic 1st

but if that is what the Kings get instead of Barnes then they are getting that for him.  And it is no where near enough.

What would be the point of keeping Poetl and trading for Sabonis? Are they trying for a twin towers lineup?

I don't see Kings dealing an all star level player for scrubs back.

They should be buyers for a big name to pair with Sabonis

The whole trade premise does not make sense to me.  TOR is willing to give up Barnes for Sabonis but not Poeltl?  That makes no sense to start.  Then in terms of value, Barnes and Sabonis are in the same range, so that lines up OK, but Simons + Hauser aren't close to the value of either.  It might take 4 picks added to that to get either Barnes or Sabonis.

I agree that Barnes is more big than wing but he is not the right kind of big for BOS.  When Tatum is back you want to be able to play your best big as the one big on the floor to take advantage of the smaller line ups.  Porzingis or Horford could be the one big in various line ups, usually with Tatum as the next biggest.  But I can't see Barnes being that big.  Sabonis, yes, for sure, he would fit fine.
