If it fixes the big man depth beyond this year, then it doesn't matter.

When Tatum is finally back, they could always slide Pritchard back to the bench without cutting a lot of his minutes to keep another defensive swing in the starting lineup.   (instead of having all three of them on the bench)

Malik Monk?

3 team trade idea

BOS gets: Ivica Zubac and Malik Monk

LAC get: Anfernee Simons, Nemias Queta, 2026 BOS 1st, 2028 BOS 1st (lottery protected)

SAC gets: Sam Hauser & Derrick Jones Jr.

I would say Monk and Simons are pretty comparable in terms of talent.
you're giving up Simons, Queta, Hauser AND 2 first rounders to get Zubac and Monk while saying Simons and Monk are about the same?  that's horrible

That struck me the same.  If Monk and Simons are comparable, why bother (I guess to save money).  But that leaves trading Queta and 2 firsts for Zubac.  I like Zubac, but not that much.

In a straight Simons for Monk trade, you save about $9M this year, which gets you in the ballpark for ducking the tax, but you also take on an additional $21M/yr for 27 and 28. That brings me back to the Mann/Simons example. If Boston wanted big money beyond this year on only okay players, I think they easily could have accomplished that already.

If the only priority is getting under the tax, I have to imagine they can do better than 3 yrs of Malik Monk. Even if the players are unplayable or injured, it would be better if they were expiring.

The real question I have that hasn't really been posed is, is Tatum's injury thebkind where is better off defending bigger stronger players or smaller quicker ones? I.e. should he be a SF or a PF?
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Does the PF position really even exist anymore? Seems like the majority of teams are just using a wing at the 4. E.g. Harris, OG, Barnes, Wiggins, George, Johnson, Buzelis, Bridges, etc.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.
