Simmons Trade Idea: BOS/SAC/LAC

To Boston: Malik Monk

To Sacramento: Anfernee Simons, John Collins. Bogdan Bogdanovic

To LA Clippers: Zach LaVine, Dario Saric

I don?t see why Boston would want to take on the long-term money owed to Monk.  Sure it gets them closer to being out of the tax this year, but then they have a pricey deal going forward that prevents them from taking advantage of their TPE next summer.

I also do not see it for the other teams either.

thought the same thing.  no idea what the appeal would be for any of the teams, well, maybe the Clips.  Lavine would be a scorer to take the load off Harden right now

I don't like it for BOS, not sure about the other teams.  Do people think that Monk is any better than Simons?  I don't see much difference.  Maybe throw in a LAC or SAC first round pick for BOS, and I would be interested (not likely, I know), but otherwise I see this as rearranging deck chairs for BOS.

The C's say no for sure.  Comparing Monk vs Simons, I think Simons is the better (younger) player.

Only if Boston knows of team with a big man they want and that team is more interested in Monk.   


Or if near the trade deadline and they can trade Simmons but still want part of his salary to trade in the offseason.   Simmons just coming off the cap doesn't really help the Celtics sign a player of value.

The best attribute of Simmons is that he is an expiring.



If I am swapping Simmons for Monk I want Nique Clifford added to the deal.

I don't. Bill may not be locked in on every aspect of the CBA, but he's a great basketball historian, a great storyteller, and isn't afraid to have an opinion that may deviate from the accepted norm. He hires good reporters and analysts that have produced great content. He's a huge positive to basketball coverage in my opinion. He gets too much hate for occasionally being wrong about something.

Barstool on the other hand is dumb, annoying, adds nothing to the discourse and we'd all be better off if it vanished into nothingness.

That said, I think Spotrac also has a flaw in their app with teams between the first and second aprons (like the Celtics).  Isn?t the rule that we cannot take back more than 110% of outgoing salary?  It gave me an error earlier today when I was trying to get Sabonis because I was taking in more than was going out, even though it was within the 110% rule.

Fanspo trade machine has BOS restricted to only 100% of outgoing also, not 110%.  I don't know what the CBA says specifically though.

Transition Traded Player Exception. During the 2023-24
Salary Cap Year only, and subject to the rules set forth in
Section 2(e) above: a Team may use the ?Transition Traded
Player Exception? to replace one (1) or more Traded Players
with one (1) or more Replacement Players whose Player
Contracts are acquired simultaneously and whose post-trade
Salaries for the 2023-24 Salary Cap Year, in the aggregate,
are no more than an amount equal to one hundred ten
percent (110%) of the pre-trade Salaries of the Traded
Player(s), plus $250,000

The 110% rule was just for 2023-2024 it looks.
