As a long and position-defying big, Kevin Garnett is an interesting Giannis comparison. (He?s also a generous one, in that he had one of the longest careers in history, playing an incredible 20 seasons.)
That?s good news for anyone interested in employing Giannis in the future: Garnett was only 60 percent of the way through his career at Giannis? age. However, by 31 Garnett had already delivered 79 percent of the Win Shares he?d ever muster.
Quote from a TrueHoop article wondering how much does Giannis have left in the tank.
Mentioned Giannis avoiding major injuries. Mentioned his training regime and diet which are excellent. Mentioned his passing. All traits that suggest longevity. Then compared him to KG as a fellow unicorn type big man.
So the 31yo marker they are using is KG's 2007-08 season. His first season in Boston. The title year. Saying he had 79% of his win shares in the bag by the end of that season (first 13 seasons). Only 21% left over his final 8 years.
KG was a 15-20mpg for his final 3 seasons. Also, KG only played half a season each of those years. So most of that 21% win shares were in the other 5 seasons. That 21% over 5 years looks a lot better than over 8 years. According to B-ref.com, KG got 4.2 win shares in those final 3 years compared to 191.4 for his career. Roughly 2% of career total. So 19% over previous 5 years is almost 4% per season. 79% over 13 years is around 6% per season.

Pretty cool graph on the article with some other legends and their year-by-year win shares by age. Plotted on a graph.
https://www.truehoop.com/p/how-many-wins-does-giannis-have-leftI don't know why the put Lillard on it. KG, MJ, LeBron. I would have liked a Shaq comp as well. Shaq and Giannis as two paint scorers with extraordinary size / athleticism.
It is one of those interactive graphs. I think it would have been easier to read if it wasn't interactive.
