Andy Larsen: Lauri Markkanen will rest tonight vs. Portland, Jazz announce. Jaren Jackson Jr. and Keyonte George also out.

What a joke.  The NBA needs to take some action.
NBA won't take the severity of action required to get team management's attention.  For sitting healthy players out of games it would need to be something as severe as refunding half the ticket price to all the game's ticket holders for a first offense, second offense would be full refund, third offense either a suspension for the season of the GM OR forfeiture of the team's first round draft pick, fourth offense would be the flipside of either suspending the GM or the loss of the pick.

I think you're on to something with that punishment. You want to tank? Have at it but we're refunding all customers ticket prices in games where healthy stars are out. All offenses after the first includes +25% inconvenience fee to customer.
ok fine

This is why interest in NBA is dropping, wish I could take time off and rest plus still getting paid..

The San Antonio Spurs and forward Jeremy Sochan have agreed on his release to allow the 2023 All-Rookie team member to become a free agent, sources tell ESPN. Sochan is expected to decide among multiple interested teams.
Knicks will probably get him

And get paid millions.

Yeah - hope they enjoy and appreciate it. There are some downsides but just about anyone would do it if they could.

Jazz fined $500,000, Pacers fined $100,000 for tanking

Feb. 12, 2026 - The NBA announced today that it has fined two teams related to the management of their rosters for recent games. The Utah Jazz organization has been fined $500,000 for conduct detrimental to the league related to the team's games against the Orlando Magic on Feb. 7 and the Miami Heat on Feb. 9. During those games, the Jazz removed two of the team's top players, Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson, Jr., before the beginning of the fourth quarter and did not return them to the game, even though these players were otherwise able to continue to play and the outcomes of the games were thereafter in doubt. In addition, the Indiana Pacers have been fined $100,000 for violating the Player Participation Policy in connection with the team's game against the Utah Jazz on Feb. 3. Following an investigation, including review by an independent physician, the NBA determined that Pascal Siakam, a star player under the Policy, and two other Pacers starters, neither of whom participated in the game, could have played under the medical standard in the Policy, including by playing reduced minutes. Alternatively, the team could have held the players out of other games in a way that would have better promoted compliance with the Policy. "Overt behavior like this that prioritizes draft position over winning undermines the foundation of NBA competition and we will respond accordingly to any further actions that compromise the integrity of our games," said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. "Additionally, we are working with our Competition Committee and Board of Governors to implement further measures to root out this type of conduct."

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

It?s a little like getting fined $1000 for stealing a $10,000 necklace but you get to keep the necklace.  The fine should be slots in the draft, lost draft picks, or lost ping pong balls.  As in something that actually harms the cheating franchise directly, and in a way that negates the gain of the violation.
