Also, with Louisville losing last night it is more possible (still not likely) that the ACC champion does not make the college football playoff as both the American champion and James Madison could be higher ranked than whoever wins the ACC.

Upset brewing as South Caorlina is whipping Texas A&M in Texas 20-3.  It is nearing halftime

Wow. A&M choking.  They get an INT down 20-3 and start 1st and goal at the 5. They get 0 yards on 3 plays and then miss the chip shot FG.  Their defense then stops SC forcing a punt, but 2 plays later they throw an INT.  They give up an 80 yard TD on the 1st play. Down 27-3. They throw another INT and SC gets another FG just before half. 30-3 at half. Amazing.

A&M pulled it out.  SC didn't score in 2nd half and lost 31-30

What is the committee going to do with Texas?  How much credit should they get for playing at Ohio State? If they don't play that game they are probably the highest ranked 2 loss team with a resume good enough to make it, but instead they have 3 losses.  Shouldn't a game like that be encouraged? Will be interesting to see what they do.

Texas also lost to 3-8 Florida.  I think they are already getting credit (or not getting penalized) for that Ohio State loss by being the highest-ranked 3-loss team.  That Florida loss was a bad one, and the SEC only schedules 8 conference games, so Texas really should schedule an additional power conference game.  Their other three non-conference opponents have a combined 7-26 record, including the two last-place teams from Conference USA, which is arguably the weakest FBS conference this year.  Texas is 9-3 with one great win, sone good wins, a really bad loss, and several cupcakes.  They should not be in the playoffs.

I'm willing to wait out and see what happens in today's games plus the championship games, but Texas should not be in. I get the Ohio State argument but they did lose to 3-8 Florida and quite frankly, I felt like a good amount of their schedule this season was truly cupcakes. Even the non-ranked teams they played were the likes of San Jose State, UTEP, Sam Houston. Also went to OT twice against Kentucky and Mississippi State, both a combined 10-13.

And if a team like Vanderbilt who is 9-2 wins today against #19 Tennessee and finishes 10-2 with losses to Texas (by 3 on the road) and Alabama (a Top-4 team who to me is like Georgia, and Georgia thumped Texas) then how can you justify keeping them out over Texas? Vanderbilt doesn't have a bad loss like Texas does to Florida. You're going to make that team miss out over Texas? Why, because of Arch Manning?

Vanderbilt lost to Texas and didn't play Ohio State. Head to head should matter the most. Bama lost by 14 to a team that is 2-6 in the ACC.  It was a non-con game though so weighs more for Bama.

If Texas was 10-2 with wins over A&M, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt how could they not be in the playoffs even with the awful loss to Florida?

Lane Kiffin takes the LSU job. I thought he built a good program at Ole Miss.

This should come as no surprise, since there is zero loyalty in college sports, especially in college football. You have schools switching conferences because of money. You have "student" athletes transferring because of NIL money or playing time. Coaches come and go to help advance their careers and money.

Maybe what Texas should do is become unaffiliated, that way they can lose to the only two quality opponents they play and still make the playoff.

Or better yet, let?s disband the SEC, we can put Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, T A&M in the Big12

Alabama, Mizzou, Florida, Auburn, Kentucky LSU in the Big10

Vandy, Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia in the ACC.

That should level things out a little bit


Controversial opinion and I?m only half serious, but everyone wants to nit pick some cupcake opponents Texas played, when teams like BYU play NOBODY.  Geez, Texas is probably the best team Ohio State played this year. the gauntlet that some of these SEC teams have to go through is wild compared to the highs and lows of most of these other teams schedule

In all seriousness, maybe what needs to be done is to have rivalry weekend earlier in the season, start conference play a week or two earlier, then reserve the final two weeks of the season for games that the committee can flex and make some of the bubble teams play each other so there?s no debate

what about Oklahoma?  Do you see an argument for them?  I mean i think most people have OU making it, yet they lost 23-6 on a neutral site to Texas. 

What about Vanderbilt, whose only ranked win is Tennessee and who also lost to Texas.

Also, did you know Texas A&M has only beaten 1 ranked opponent which was Notre Dame in week 3 and they basically only won because ND went for 2 up 6 instead of just kicking the extra point.

I get the Florida loss is horrible, but Texas' other losses are to 1 and 3 (OSU and UGA) and they have 2 top 10 wins (A&M and OU) plus the top 15 win (Vande). 

With the size of the conferences there is a lot of schedule imbalance. It isnt nearly as cut and dry as it used to be. I think head to head really needs to matter as should scheduling a game on the road at the best team in the country when you didn't have to.
