Can someone explain williams chances of being a celtic this year. Right now he's on the maine red claws with no two way contract.

Can we dump Tilman and give him his spot. If we sign Bassey its hard to see room for him at all this year.

We suddenly have too.many bigs this year. They all kinda stink so its probably good to have eight or so.

Let's see im going to assume we do sign Bassey here.

 Queta,  Garza,  Bassey, Williams

Boucher, Minott, Tilman, Miles Norris , Tatum

Kind of Crazy to have Nine Six foot Nine inch and up players on this roster when a minute ago we had no size at all.

Most of them are not great, but there is strength in numbers. Nice job Brad.

No need for Bassey with Boucher on board....BTW, Boucher is a good rim protector

He's okay at rim protection.  Better as a weak side shot blocking at the 4.

 In 17 mpg .5 big.

per 36 minutes.  1 bpg. Not exactly timelord numbers.

I thought he was a lock for a 2-way contract.  I would be very surprised if they do not sign him. Maybe they are waiting for a full roster spot to open up.

Williams makes sense if we get rid of somebody and need a body to fill a roster slot.  His salary is cheaper than Walsh, Tillman, etc.

But, as a player, he looks far below roster worthy to me.

I think his main talents are his passing and being tall.   His offense on non dunks is bad folks.   That shot needs tore down and rebuilt.  I also think he has a subpar vertical leap.  He is a work in progress but there is some good stuff to work with.

I think he needs to get playing time to improve and a lot of coaching on shooting fundamentals.  Being on the Celtics isn't going to meet this need.   I do not see him on the Celtics.   He should be in Europe or the G league honing his game.

Amari Williams is a tough one to peg for me.  In summer league, I saw him dribble up the floor at full speed, in complete control, head up, really surprising for a player his size.  He also made quick decisions, really good court vision leading to some surprisingly good passes for anyone, much less someone his size.  Seemed to have good hands in terms of receiving the ball.  He also looked lost on the court at times and he has no shooting touch at all right now.  It is hard to understand how a guy who clearly has ability, surprisingly good tools in some areas, can look so bad at other aspects.

I think the good news is that many of the positives are the "can't teach" kinds of ability.  You can't teach a 7-footer to dribble up the court the way he can, you can either do it or you can't (plus or minus some level of improvement from practice).  Hopefully the shooting and periods of lostness can be coached up or practiced into being.  We'll see but I will be disappointed if he is not on the team one way or another.

Williams is hanging out for now.  If between now and the start of camp we need someone to fill the 14th roster spot who has a minimal tax hit after a trade, he will be signed to a 2nd round exception contract.  If we do not need such a player, he will be given a 2-way, and one of Norris and Luis Jr. will be cut.  But he has not been supplanted on the roster; the Celtics simply do not need to make a decision yet.

Williams has some promise and having grown up in England the long term potential is still there.  My doubts stem from his rebounding and hesitant physical defensive aggressiveness in summer league.  Vermont Green nailed the positives.  In summer league, at times, he was even used as a 7ft point forward/center. He brought the ball up and pushed the ball as the secondary or even the primary ball handler.  He handled and moved the ball well in this roll.

Luis Jr.  was not drafted and I have read he was benched and a disappointment in the NCAA tournament.  Did he perform in summer league?  I did not see him play.

Why would we keep him over Amari Williams?

Luis did not play at all in SL. We would keep him because he was big east player of the year. Let his team in scoring and rebounding.

He had a meltdown in his final game and went undrafted. 6'7" wingspan two way wing, very good athlete,  good defender, creates his own shot. Lots of upside at 21 years young.

Maybe Amari gets an exhibit 10 contract? That way the Cs could further evaluate him. Somewhere down the line he can be converted into a 2 way if Shulga (or any of the other 2 ways) doesn?t show some improvement?

I would think that Brad likes Amari and Shulga better than Luis since he just drafted them and passed on Luis, but I guess you never know.
