I still think he should be moved.   Once Tatum is back, I still see Pritchard going back to the bench and being offense off the bench.   Also, if Simons keeps playing this well, he will likely be offered more then the Celtics could pay with the current NBA system.

My hope is a team that wants him past this year doesn't want to wait until the offseason to get him and tries to get him in house and can send the Celtics either the big man they need or the pieces needed to build a trade for a big man.

The better Simons plays, the less the Celtics need to send out extra pieces.

Pritchard will not be going back to the bench this year.  When Tatum is ready to return to the starting lineup, the Hauser/Walsh/Hugo/Minott spot will go to Tatum.  Anything else would be disruptive to the overall rotations and chemistry of the team.

We don't know that.   Pritchard seemed fine last year earning 6th man of the year.

And for the long term of Tatum and Brown, have someone who can be the defender on the other teams best player can help save them for the long season.

Keep Anfernee....Remember Pierce/Garnett to Nets trade. That workout very well for the C's. Whatever happens it comes down to business decision while balancing the desire to hang another banner.

We should only trade him if we get something of value in return - we shouldn't make a deal simply for cap relief.  If we hold onto him, my guess is that we can resign him for cheap. There doesn't seem to be a huge market for guards.

Assuming Tatum comes back, who would you rather have, Simons or a decent backup center?

Why can't they just get a backup center without trading Simons? Most of the backup names or possibilities I've seen make little money anyways (Bagley, Sharpe, etc.)

I should have said another center, not necessarily a backup. Vucevic, Claxton, etc.

I think it will be as much Simons decision to leave. It could even be more important to him to start somewhere than the money if it?s not a HUGE difference. He?s only young for so long and will never start here on a regular basis. Unless we are a FAVORITE I think he leaves for a starting position somewhere even if it?s a terrible team. Nobody can know if we are a legit contender because nobody has ever been the same after Tatum?s injury. Tatum may end up being a great #2 for us. We just have no idea.
Even if he miraculously got back to 90 percent of what he was , we are still missing a good enough big man ( no disrespect to Queta who I really like).

Yeah, if he's going to leave we need to trade him, similar to the Kyrie situation.  We don't want to lose free agents for nothing.

The front office probably has an okay idea of what he's looking for in free agency.

Pritchard will try his best to be okay with it, but just as it has taken Simons a while to fit into his current role, it would take adjustment for Pritchard too.  There would not be the same adjustment for Hauser/Walsh, who have been back and forth with their lineup spots and minutes.

Simons has come on lately. I am not sure we know what he can be yet. Probably something close to what we are seeing lately.  I would trade him in a good trade, but not just to trade him. If he reaches FA, Boston would still have the best chance to sign him.  I do not see a team offering him big money.

Put it to you this way. Do you think Tatum is going to be ok doing what I saw Brown doing in the forth quarter last night. That is standing in corner while Simons takes multiple step backs in isolation. I don?t think so. So if Simons opportunities are now limited then there is way less value he provides. And won?t be worth the contract. Which is not going to be 8 million a year like Houser. It will be way more. So the time to trade him is now. While he is showing out.
