Ben Simmons?

What have people heard over the past few years about Simmons as a teammate?  Or about Simmons and his dedication to the game or work ethic?  Or his mental health/ emotional well-being?

I think one dynamic that could change things psychologically for Simmons is that for the first time in a long time he won?t be making far more money than he?s worth.  Who knows how that might impact him, but maybe takes some pressure of expectations off the table.

I?d be curious to see him surrounded by players who seem to have solid work ethic - in particular DW, JB, PP, JT.   He may have had good work culture in his other stops - idk.

I?m not even sure he is that bad of a teammate or even if it is a question with his work ethic, though I do question that a bit. I am much more concerned about his back. I believe he has had at least 2 back surgeries and I don?t think he will ever be the same. Plus I believe he has had some knee problems as well. I don?t think his body can hold up for large minutes anymore and he needed to take lots of maintenance days off last year for his back.

Other than the much publicized frustration from Embiid several years back, I don't think he's ever really alienated a teammate before. He's very aloof but also very meek. I think the risk of him poisoning the locker room would be minimal.

Haven't seen anything to suggest he's improved his work ethic and worked to address the massive flaws in his game. Don't think that will ever change.

As far as the mental side he was able to at least pick himself up and be a relatively functional member of a playoff team, albeit in a tiny role. Probably in a slightly better place than when he was being cut by Brooklyn and the back issues were threatening his career.

Don't believe his back issues are solved and that is certainly going to limit how many games he would potentially play. He could be done for the season at any given moment.

He's a bit of a wuss and 50 games would be his absolute maximum for the season but I don't think it would be a massive risk to take him for a season. Don't have much to lose giving it a try. Haven't been a fan of his for a long time but I'd certainly support him if he did sign with Boston and hope most others would do the same - just to show how much classier the fan base is compared to Philly.

One way to look at it. If he does have a solid few months, he's a guy you can flip at the deadline for additional assets. That's something this year's Celtics need to probably consider, it's a tank/retool year basically so you might as well try and maximize this roster and assets for beyond 2026 with Tatum/White/Brown/PP

I hate Simmons as the veterans of this forum know, but for this year I don't mind signing him. And quite frankly he might be our best PF/C on the team, not because of Ben Simmons but because of our sad state of affairs in the frontcourt.

I don't see what's wrong with Simmons for the Celtics as maybe a mid level exception. He's a 6'10 player who can pass well. I think his only weakness is outside shooting. I looked up his stats and he hasn't attempted a 3 point shot in years. LOL.

He's only made 5 in his entire career

The issue with Ben at this point in his career is everyone knows he won't shoot. You cant run him on a pick and roll because the defender can always play under. He no longer draws a double because he's 0 threat even going to the rim. Heck I've seen possessions where he doesn't even get covered and he still cant figure out what to do with the none coverage.

I see 0 value bringing in Ben.

historically, his free throw shooting has been god awful as well. though, last season he increased his career FT percentage by making 18 of 26 for the entire season.

this is one reason why simmons as next to unplayable in close games.

Look at it this way, though. If you play Ben at center, he doesn?t need to shoot. Can also play Simmons at the 4 if you have a stretch 5. He is 6?10 240lbs with  a 7 foot wing span.
