Ben Simmons?

Mark Stein is saying the Celtics have interest. Man, I remember him in the draft, thought he would be like LJ! So sad that he never could get it together. Always seemed more mental with him than anything else. I mean a 6.11" point guard! Actually, that is what I think killed his career. He could have been a great PF, if he was forced to learn that role. Instead, they let him run the point and he seemed to lose confidence the more he played. To me if he played closer to the basket he would have had so much less pressure on him. Who knows, anyway do you see him on the Celtics?  I have always routed for the underdog and would love to see him have a break out season, But, with his mental state, I just don't see it.

Vegas has had the Celtics as Ben Simmons most likely team since he was bought out by Brooklyn, and that was when the second apron made it impossible for us to sign him as a buy out guy since he was making over the MLE.

I?m all for it. As far as assets go they do not get more distressed than Simmons. He?s closer to falling out of the league than he is to returning to his All NBA caliber form, but that?s why he?s available. Last year he had a few flashes for the Clippers and if he could regain some of his early career form while building chemistry with Brown in preparation for Tatum?s return it might be the highest level wing that we could imagine while still avoiding the second apron repeater penalties. A true infusion of talent into a retooling roster.


Bring him in and lock him in the Gym with KG for 2 summers until Tatum is back.

I don't see a reason not to pick him up for this upcoming season.

I'd be curious to see what effect Joe's brand of aggressive positivism would have in him.

Every decision we make needs to be about retooling for '26-'27 and beyond.
We should have a decent window after Tatum returns to win another title or two.
Would Simmons contribute to a title team over the next five seasons ?

I wouldn?t say excellent. It ended on a down note falling out of the playoff rotation. He played well defensively but kills your spacing as he is afraid to shoot. There was a reason the Clippers didn?t try hard to bring him back.

Plus I think his back is cooked. After 2 surgeries on it it?s not going to get any better. Saying that, we are hurting for big man depth so I would be fine for that reason, but I think expecting anything more is fools gold.

On a Mazulla offense that is shooting threes like there?s no tomorrow, I can see Simmons being very effective. He is a good defender so maybe as a specialist it would work but if he hasn?t lost the fear of shooting by now (even if he misses but at least the threat that he could shoot), then his usage is extremely limited.

As I said in the other thread, Simmons would be the best big man on the team. Says nothing about Simmons, but just is an indictment of how bad the big men are on the team.

Stein is still pretty reliable when reporting about Dallas.  If the Mavericks are not involved, however, he should be as ignored as most others in the rumor mill industry.

Anyway, I have lost hope for him.  There was a time when I though bringing him in and trying to convert him to a PF who doesn't need to shoot much was a good idea.  That was probably 4 years ago.

I wouldn't have a problem if they waived Davison (or otherwise opened up a roster spot) and brought him in, what is the harm?  He would have to fit into the role that team has, not have the team adjust to fit around him.  I just don't see that happening.

even though I have no expectations that Davison will be of any use this season, I'd rather have him than Simmons since only one of them will play with effort while the other one will be going through the motions to just collect another NBA paycheck
