If simons isn't in the team's long term plan. I think Pritchard is a better fit next to white, but I'd rather keep PP as 6th man.

So that means you're going to have to add a starting PG( They won't pay Simons 20+mil a year to re-sign) to play next to white,or a SG.

I feel SG might be an easier spot to find new talent or cheaper talent.

For sure. D White is adaptable enough that we can put any type of guard next to him and make it work.

I think they will play A Simons $20+mil to stay.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I remember Jrue saying that White was the PG, so I don't think it's much of an issue either way.

If we keep Simons past next year, then it'll be on a reasonable contract to remain a starter. I love PP and it probably is killing him that we brought in another scoring guard to start ahead of him, but Simons is at least better on that end of the floor. And PP has [obviously] proven to be an elite 6th man.

Derrick White is a point guard.

Hasn't the PG been dead for years?    Most modern PGs are scorers first but there are some exceptions.  The same can be said of PF and C who are just bigs now.   Wings have all kind of variety in terms of roles.

I would argue that our great 80s team did not have a legit PG but rather Combo guards.

Like most are saying, you have to be more specific regarding what you consider a PG.  White can defend any PG, but I don't see him as being the one with the ball in his hand initiating the Pick and Roll sets.  That seems to be what most people think of when you say "Point Guard".

I think we haven't had a true point guard since the Rajon Rondo days.

Isaiah Thomas was more of a combo guard specializing in both 1 and 2. Same with Smart for that matter.

Scary Terry was a true PG.

I think ideally we see White be the PG and either Baylor or Hugo show enough to be the starting 2 by the start of next season. Very wishful thinking but then I think we use all our assets to try and get a big man as we will be unable to plug multiple holes that way. Then we still have Pritchard and Hauser off the bench. Another vet big ideally and we have a chance in 2026.

He can, but I feel it makes more sense to start Pritchard at PG, White at SG, and Simons plating combo guard off the bench.

Pritchard is an excellent ball handler with a low turnover rate, and high ast:TO ratio and high BBIQ - I feel he is the best equipped to run the offense.

I like White at the SG spot because he's a bigger guard who can switch on multiple positions, and while he's more of a scorer then a playmaker.

I like those two guys starting together because they have both been around the team for a few years now - they know the offence, they know how to play with JB (and with each other) and there will be minimal adjustment.  They are also more steady, consistent players.

I like Simons off the bench as a 6th man because I feel like that role just fits his game.  He's a less efficient, streaky, volume scorer - exactly the type of guy you can bring off the bench as an offensive spark / wildcard, and he can play both positions so he can cover for both Pritchard and White.

Yeah. White definitely played the PG role when he and Jrue were on the floor together.

Don't kid yourself. Brown is going to bring the ball up most of the times. He sees this as a chance to show that he can be a lead dog.

I am concerned with his drunken dribbling and prefer White handle that but it is going to be Brown who has the ball most of the possessions. Just hope JB doesn't become a black hole on offense as he sometimes can be.
