Perhaps Stevens has a grand plan to return us to contention in 2026.

He has only picked up expiring deal to create cap space for 2026 and during the season Brown can demonstrate his ability to be a leading scorer. Even if the Celtics finish in the middle of the pack after the 2025-26 season that is a solid late lottery pick that can be packaged.

After the Bucks fall well short with their core of Giannis, Porter Jr & Turner, Giannis will be on the trade block.

Brown & multiple first round picks & swaps, should be one of the best offers available given Giannis will only go to a true contender.

Another long term option is the return of Porzingis in 2026 free agency. Journalists like Zach Lowe have intimated how much Porzingus loved being in Boston and him returning is a possibility.

Really liked what Hugo said about his year with Real Madrid being like a pre rookie campaign. Hoping he gets some actual run this year because he seems like the type of player that will thrive in the open spacing of the NBA.

Going back into the second apron for Garza and Minott is puzzling as well.   I think both these guys could have been obtained for the vet minimum.  Something else has to be coming.

By my math, that depends on if we offer Hugo the full 120% rookie scale, but maybe my math is wrong.

Everyone points to 2027 as when the Cs can really contend. So probably 2 years of this with next year being a step toward 2027.

I'm pretty sure they were both signed for the vet minimum.

But we're not going to finish in the 2nd apron. We currently have 3 players on non-guaranteed deals for next year. I don't see Queta going anywhere, but I wouldn't consider Davison or Walsh absolute staples of our rotation next year. Pretty easy to let one or both of those guys go if needed.

But even if we did keep everybody, we would just trade a different vet minimum contract by the deadline.

I'd like to see them get under the first apron to be honest. No reason not to reset the books as much as possible. That way in 2027 they can really be big game hunting.

2026 they will be better but this tear down and reset is really a two season step.

2025 is the most painful as we have seen.

2026 they will be much more competitive with JT back and roster being flexible. They can rid themselves of the deadweight (Garza, Minott, Davison, Walsh, Niang, Tillman).

I am on the fence with Simons. Think he actually could be a positive piece for them long term if the money is right and he tries to play defense. But he could be dumped now or at the deadline (which is more likely).

Getting under the 1st apron means nothing unless they plan on a player that is currently on the roster is going to demand big money down the road that isn't already getting paid. Trying to get under the first apron is just about saving $ other wise.
