What if the trade is

Jalen Johnson, Zaccharie Risacher, 2026 NOP/MIL 1st

For

Jaylen Brown

So Boston gets a former recent #1 pick, a young athletic big, a likely mid 1st pick, shaves 10 million salary (which may get them entirely out of tax depending on how rest if year shakes out).  Add that to Boston's own lottery pick and I think that team could compete with Tatum as early as next year.

I love Jaylen, but I think you have to do that deal if it?s offered. Makes sense for ATL, too, since it consolidates two very good wings into one. We need young talent moving forward and Johnson would have been an All-Star last year if he didn?t get injured

If you believe that Johnson + Risacher in 2026 are better than Brown in 2026, then I do this trade.  Maybe ATL would too. I am Ok with trading Brown if it is for players that make the team better. That is not tanking.  Is durability an issue for Johnson?  I do not know these ATL players all that well.

Durability definitely the issue for Johnson. Plenty of talent, you hope the efficiency improves as he plays more, as one would expect, but he has real talent
Go Celtics.

Sign it in blood and run away before they change their mind. You absolutely do that deal with JJ and only one of those other assets, let alone both. Hell, Brown for JJ straight up is a decent trade given age and contract.

I mean they are staring at 0-3 and honestly if they can't beat New Orleans tomorrow night then you might as well begin to think it. I really am not seeing them being above .500 and it would be foolish to bring Tatum back even if you are like the 9-10 play-in team

The team just isn?t talented. They are going to tank simply due to the roster construction. Good thing the 2026 draft class is a good one.

Brown wants to go home to Atlanta, then we'll help him. Seems like a solid package

Not talented is an over statement. This team has lots of B players thrust into roles they are ill accustomed to. Their secondary players are positionally small/unathletic and largely at the guard position.

The coach needs to do a better job of playing players by position, instead of perceived status. Hauser and Pritchard are great bench players, keep em there. The PF needs to be manned by Boucher, Minnott despite there lack of starter talent. We need more size/athleticism on the floor.

This team def lost high end talent but the coach needs to platoon his players. The disparity of talent in the players not named Brown or White is not enuff to be playing players that can?t match up with other teams.

If zero defense continues the tank will take care of itself

Coach Joe should be on notice. After the blown leads and series loss to the knicks and allowing multiple 40 plus points a quarter here early, it?s evident a change will come..

Brown should have been traded at the Draft. Another player who doesn?t make any other player better while on the court..

Garbage roster even with Tatum..

This is what I have tried to get across, this team is going no where fast. The only player missing is Tatum. This is not a title winning roster.

Gone are the days of free agency pick ups like prime Horford & Hayward. Players of that calibre do not reach free agency anymore. The Celtics do not have a war chest of draft picks either.

The Celtics front office should have pivoted to a rebuild last offseason.

The only way I can see the Celtics winning another title with this core is getting extremely lucky in the next draft lottery, then flipping the pick and Brown for Giannis.

Houston, San Antonio, and Atlanta seem like the most likely trade partners as they all have young players, salary to add, and some extra 1st rounders.  All are also in win now modes, so upgrading positions would make sense for all 3.  T
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Mazzulla just signed a contract extension.  I know this place hates the guy and blames him for everything they haven't already pinned to JB, but your hatred doesn't appear to be shared by the front office.

I saw a post recently by a reliable journalist that stated the reason for the Mazzulla extension was because the Knicks were preparing to making Mazzulla an offer to become their new head coach.

Personally I would have let Mazzulla go for multiple picks and then made an offer for Will Hardy. Hardy has extracted so much from a broken roster in Utah.

He probably was extended to keep him from the Knicks, yeah.  You still don't extend a coach you dislike.  I don't know what the insinuation is here but it doesn't make sense to me.

I think it's pretty clear that the front office likes the guy and believes in him.  Gonna be some unhappy people in game threads here about it, but it is what it is.

Sidenote:  What has Will Hardy extracted from Utah, exactly?  They had the worst record in the league last season.

I agree.  Also I think we thought PP and DWhite would be a lot better.  This team needs a legit big.
