Sacramento trades out two guards for a better guard. Their roster is still weird but it is SAC so their roster will always be weird, and this makes it a little less weird and also better. SAC will be under the tax line with a 14-man roster if they release the non-guaranteed Terrance Davis, which seems likely to happen with or without this trade.
Dallas clears out its logjam at SF/PF/C behind Davis, Flagg, and Lively/Gafford (although it still has Martin and Marshal to play the wing, and is thus not hurting for depth even post-trade). Right now their PG rotation is D?Angelo Russell and Brandon Williams, so this is a big upgrade for them at that position. It also drops them from 16 to 14 roster spots while reducing salary and leaving them with enough room to sign an additional player at the minimum while staying under the hard cap, which they have subjected themselves to already because of signing Russell.
The Celtics save about $5 million in salary while getting a starting PF and a couple of second-tier prospects to throw minutes at. They can increase their savings by releasing Davison, who is not needed after the acquisition of Carter.
SAC probably gets the worst of this deal, and someone might need to throw them a second for taking on Powell. The Celtics could also absorb Powell through the Springer TPE if need be and the deal would work the same, although the Celtics would now have an additional player they don?t want or have room for on the roster, and miss out on most of the savings.
