Trading 32 makes me think Brad has agreements with both Al and Luke for next season.

I?ve also thought that.  If he can use one of these seconds that he?s acquired to move Niang and thus have the space to bring back Al and Luke, then that is a win.

I'll be mad if the Fakers snatch the player that the Cs like just right before the C's pick as they both need a center.

Vomit.  Two late seconds instead of a potential impact player.

I hate Brad's draft style.

Roy you sure it isn't 4 second round picks that we got?  2 this year and one 2026 one 2027, thats what I heard

4 seconds, yes.  The two this year are garbage, though, whereas there were legit prospects available at #32.

Well if he is going to use these two picks to move Niang it better happen soon. If not, Brad is basically drafting to rentals for summer league that have no chance of being on this team unless they are sent to Maine.

Exactly.  You can just consider the two in this year's draft as a fart in the wind.

So what are the odds that either of the two 2nds in 2026 or 2027 will be #32 or better?  Basically zero.  They'll most likely be in the 40s or 50s, and become more farts in the wind.

It's beginning to stink around here.

came into tonight looking forward to getting a player that could possibly fill a hole in the roster that had some promise and now Brad just f'ed that up.  disgusted.

if one of the 4 picks he got is to move Niang then fine but sucks losing the chance to get someone who can contribute

I HATE moves like this. Once you start getting into the 45ish rains the usefulness of second rounders as guys who turn into anything at all is basically zero. Last year's #52 pick didn't even make it through the season before being waved. The guy you pick at #32 has very little chance of working out but breaking that up into a bunch of nothing the year before you're about to go through a mini-rebuild seems just dumb.

The Celtics must REALLY believe that BOTH Horford and Kornet are coming back, but even so you'd still have room for a devlopmental 4 or 5.

I guess you just have to trust their evaluations. If they didn't want Raynaud or Kalkbrenner there then fine. But if one of those guys ends up being good they should get hammered for this.

Based on what Shams said it seems like Fleming was their guy - Phoenix traded up to grab him - so Brad decided to trade out because no one else really stood out to him.

Bringing back Horford and Kornet would put them back over the 2nd apron.  They're going to have to make more cost savings trades.  I agree the trade down was idiotic.

Re: keevsnick - I think the Celtics believe that Williams is a developmental guy, and this way he?s not using up a roster spot.

As for moving Niang, it?s not cheap, it?s getting off bad money to re-sign two productive players we really want to retain. And depending on how much they sign for, gives us the opportunity to use the taxpayer MLE

they have to get under the second apron by the end of the season, not opening day so there's time to dump some salary

I am afraid we are stuck with Niang for a year because he has zero value. Sam will be the one moved if they want to keep Al and/or Luke.

He?s not unplayable, just a little overpaid, and there are teams that would accept the two 2nds we just received to take him on. He fits in a number of different exceptions.

I don't think they brought him in to trade him though. I think the plan is to keep Niang and let him walk after his deal expires next year and they move Sam to get him off the books long term.

Brad wants as much freedom in 2026 as possible and it is easier to move Sam now than Niang. You can have 3 guys with expiring deals after this season (Niang, Simons and Tillman).

The other picks they acquired in the deal:

Best of Detroit and Magic 2nd in 2026.
Best of Boston and Magic 2nd in 2027.

So in all likelihood you are getting at best a 45-50 in 2026 and probably not better than 50 in 2027. A bunch of very mehhhh picks.

It feels like the Celtics just wanted to save a roster spot this year, that's fine. But it would have been nice to have one more developmental piece with a little more upside.
