So overall since the last JH trade:

So Portland trades 2 years of JH, Simons + 2nd rounders

For

Celtics trade Brogdon, Williams, 2 first rounders

Am I missing something?

Thanks for the title run, Jrue!  A total class act, and I am sorry he is gone after only two years.

I do not expect Simons to make it through the summer a Celtic.

Yes, I am actually really sad to see Jrue go.  Class act, great player, great person.  Perfect maturity and experience that helped JT/JB take the next step.

Me too. I think they should have kept the gang together. They had a great chance of a title push in the latter part of next season once Tatum returns. Especially with several other teams in the East going through difficulties as well.

I suppose the Celtics could have a deal for Simons already lined up, but more likely the Celtics simply viewed this as a chance to get off the 2 years 72 million owed to Jrue in 2026-2028 and took the opportunity with the idea that a 27 million dollar expiring is easier to move than a three year 104 million dollar contract.

They now have multiple avenues to getting under the 2nd apron, with Simons, KP and Hauser all probably flippable.

That's a better return than I was expecting, but also didn't bring the cost savings.  But, it still saves a ton of money now and in the future.

Did it or didn't it save us money ? You said both.
Is Simons a good defender ?  A good team guy ?

It saves about 5 million in salary and another 40 million in tax this year. Then it removes 2 years and 72 million of Jrue Holiday's contract in 2026-2028. So nit as much IMMEDIATE savings as some were expecting, but a lot of future savings.

I think Simons can be an interim scoring guard for us until JT comes back healthy.

If not maybe we can dangle him for a mid 1st round pick in this year's lottery?

Dunno what team has lots of cap space and needs a veteran scoring guard.

At worst he's an expiring deal that we can easily move next season if need be.

I think the elephant in the room is how do we clear cap space AND get any quality bigs?   Al looks to be gone, but maybe not, but either way he is a play every other night during the season guy.  KP can't stay healthy.   Then we have Luke, who was good in the regular season, but is he going to be back on a low salary?

Simons, it seems, might be the worst defender in the entire NBA

Got it, thanks.

So it saves long term and not so much immediately, though I'm certain Brad is not done.

Siegel says Pelicans and Warriors are interested in Porzingis

Interesting

Think we can pry Zion from them?

KP would actually make a ton of sense next to Zion. Floor stretching big to open up the lanes for Zion.

Jaylen Brown for Zion Williamson (+ added value) works.

2026 starting line-up:       Pritchard - White - Tatum - Zion - Porzingis

Naturally Zion is a big gamble. However Brown (9 years of heavy NBA (reg.+playoffs) load + knee surgery) is a bigger risk than most people realize as well.

(Brown is the only option that works salarywise, besides Tatum of course)

Interesting trade. So many ways to view this - more trade flexibility with cost savings (more long-term) versus potential impact player in a better environment and system for him to keep us afloat in a decimated East while waiting for JT?s return.

Will be an interesting next few days to see what other dominoes fall, but glad it didn?t cost us assets to offload Jrue. Regardless, wish Jrue the best and glad he was able to help us raise banner 18!

Simons had a lot of rumors around him for the last half a year. I wonder if the Cs move Simons again for more value.

He was a 20 point scorer on a bad team.   Not sure where that puts him with a more veteran team of better players.
So unless he gets shipped out it is

Simons
DWhite
JB
?
KP

starting next year?

Or maybe we start Pritchard and White in the backcourt and use Simons as a 6th man to bring an offensive spark off the bench.  He can play a bit of the 1 and a bit of the 2, so this probably makes some sense.  Defensively he may not be as vulnerable agaisnt second unit guys.

A league source said the Celtics acquired Anfernee Simons, who is on an expiring deal, because they like what he can bring to the roster, but added that they will "remain engaged on all fronts."
