This deal includes 2 first round picks going to the Blazers.

Saves just under $5 million.

Thanks for the memories Jrue.  I like Simons.  A bit inconsistent but he can light it up at times.  A LOT younger.
Yup

This is definitely not Brad?s last move no? I like the trade because Simons firepower can replace JT?s scoring. Am not sure if Brad is gonna keep him though? He?s also an expiring contract. I feel bad for Jrue and hope Portland flips him to a contender.

That's a better return than I was expecting, but also didn't bring the cost savings.  But, it still saves a ton of money now and in the future.

I'm not necessarily a fan of Simons' game but that's good value for a guard who showed his age last season and has three expensive years left.

Yeah that's all I'm seeing. Jrue Holiday for Simons + 2 second rounders (2030 Knicks second-rounder and a 2031 Blazers second-rounder from Portland)

Idk where it says we're also sending them two firsts

There has to be something else going to Portland. Why would they do a deal like this?

Whoa misread Shams follow-up tweet.

Portland makes an aggressive move to re-acquire Holiday, who the franchise originally received from Milwaukee in the Damian Lillard trade in 2023 and later moved to Boston for a deal that included two first round picks to Blazers. Simons joins Boston on an expiring contract

I just skimmed it and saw "two first round picks to Blazers"

This deal is phenomenal

Yeah I didn't think that Jrue had that kind of value left, and I LOVE Jrue!
+ 2 second round picks too?

Why did Portland do this deal?

Well this is surprising. This deal saves the Celtics less than 5 million dollars, which means they are still significantly over the 2nd apron, probably by about 15-20 million over.

That said Simons is an expiring, so they get off roughly 2/70 remaining on Holiday's contract in 26/27 and 27/28. The Celtics may be deep in the 2nd apron but they'll have 58 million in expiring contracts coming off the books after next year.

Simons can also provide some much-needed scoring for the Celtics next year.

So not the deal we all thought, but interesting.
