So the Suns cannot make this trade. They are a 2nd Apron team, which means they can't take more salary than they send out in a trade. Brooks + Green is 55.4m. Durant makes 54.7.

They also cannot aggregate and just send back a filler contract under the second apron, unless they are getting under the 2nd apron threshold.

If they sent Allen to a third team, then this trade works. There's also been rumors of the Wizards trading back for Beal. Either way, they have to send out at least 12.1m more in salaries.

They don't really have the contracts for that

I guess I like this for HOU.  They end up with a "big 3" of Durant (37), VanVleet (31), and Sengun (23) with some decent depth (Adams, Jabari Smith, Sheppard, Thompson).  The big risk of course is the durability of Durant moving forward as a 37 year old player.  He may end up playing fewer games than Porzingis over the next couple of seasons.  There is no guarantee that he is more productive than Green overall moving forward.  Maybe they get a couple of star seasons out of Durant, but no guarantee.

As to PHX, I think they are going to blow it up totally at this point.  They get a nice young player and a decent draft pick to start with.  It is funny that they may be trying to copy OKC who have two 7-footers and everyone else is a 6'-5" or 6'-6" guard.  Of course the problem for PHX is that they don't have any real 7-footers, just the guards.

Even after the KD trade, HOU remains under the cap, so they could take back more salary than they send out in a trade. For example, Holiday for Sheppard and Landale works, and saves Boston about $14 million.

It'd be Smith Jr., Sheppard, Landale, and Williams for Jrue.

The only way I can figure that would work is if the Nets were willing to trade one of their draft picks for Sheppard, and then also take Landale and Williams back. The Nets would be trading a mid 1st rounder and taking salary for a 2nd draft player that a lot of people liked in Sheppard.

Celtics get Smith Jr. We'd still need to trade Hauser to get under the 2nd apron enough though.

In that trade, the Rockets would get Holliday and a 1st (either 8 or 19+26) from the Nets.

Weirder trades have happened. The Nets already have been reported to want to trade up - apparently they don't like the players in their draft range. Consolidating their picks together if they like Sheppard makes sense.

I wouldn't probably do that trade as the Nets or the Rockets, but Sheppard does have his fans in the NBA. If the Nets like him, it makes sense. If the Rockets don't like those guys and think Holliday gets them closer to a championship, it make sense.

Brooks is more of a wing/forward than a guard. Allen should be gone before the season starts.

Still don't like the fit of Beal-Booker-Green. I'm not sure what in the last few seasons has the Suns thinking that Beal or Booker can run point guard on a good playoff roster.

Saw this online, for me it perfectly sums up the Mat Ishbia era in Phoenix,

Quote
Turning Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, 4 first-round picks and a swap into Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and a late lotto pick in a middling draft in the span of just 28 months.

If you make this trade before the season flips, it works cap wise

Brown for Sheppard, Thompson, Smith, Landale, Eason, Holiday, future 1st's

All in trade for Rockets. They will need depth but VanVleet, Brown, Durant, and Sengun is a really good top 4 (plus Adams and Whitmore).

Celtics get 3 young talented players and future 1st's to add flexibility and start a 1-year tank.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

For Phoenix, if they can get Beal to wave his no trade clause, a fair trade would be with Portland for Williams III & Grant. For Portland, Beal only has 2 years left on his deal, where as Grant has 3.

Phoenix Suns

Williams III
Grant
Brooks
Booker
Green

Portland Trail Blazers

Ayton
Camara
Avdija
Beal
Simons

Henderson, Sharpe, Clingan

I don't think the Blazers should add to their scoring guard rotation. Then probably don't have enough minutes as it is for Simons, Henderson, and Sharpe. Still, its hard to figure out what the Blazers are doing. Feels like they need to commit to a direction and start building out a roster.

Contract and value wise it does make sense.

Terrible trade for Phoenix.

I don't know why they committed to trading Durant. They should have just kept him.

Jalen Green is not a high end talent. It is not clear he is even an above average talent. I think he is an average player with otherworldy athleticism. Plus, he plays the same position as your two best players Bradley Beal and Devin Booker. None of these 3 players are capable of playing a 2nd position. All 1 position players.

They could have at least agreed a 3 team deal that sent Jalen Green elsewhere and brought back someone who actually played a position of a need ... which is any position other than SG. A PG, a SF, a PF, a C. Anything other than a SG.

That #10 pick isn't that valuable. There is little difference between that and a pick in the #16-#20 range.

It is a crap deal. They destroyed their team for no good reason. Just to show they were doing something. Activity over achievement. No plan for how they are moving forward. No hope for the short to medium term. Awful.
