I haven't seen any news about applying for one.  We wouldn't use it so I'm not sure it matters.

BOS certainly wouldn't use it for 2025-26 while they are over the 2nd Apron but the landscape could change dramatically if they trade Simons and/or Niang.  I think BOS is fine with only having 14 actual active players on the regular roster, and then fill in with 2-way players when needed.  I don't see any real reason to replace Tatum.  It is not like that is going to materially change the expectation for 2025-26.

I haven't seen any news about applying for one.  We wouldn't use it so I'm not sure it matters.

My guess is we will apply for one, because it?s useful to have.  For example, suppose we trade Niang at the deadline and someone gives us back a $5 million expiring in return.  We could use the DPE to take on the $5 million player and get an $8 million TPE for Niang that would last into next season.

A few minor moves yesterday

Jared Butler and the Phoenix Suns have agreed to a one-year deal.

Butler appeared in 60 games last season with the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers. Butler averaged 9.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 17.4 minutes.

I am surprised Philly did not keep him as a 3rd string PG.

Next a pair of guards going Euro

Lonnie Walker IV has agreed to sign with Maccabi Tel Aviv. Walker has an NBA buyout clause in his contract until August 1st and will be one of the highest-paid players in Europe.

Shake Milton has agreed to sign a two-year deal with Partizan Belgrade. Milton was recently waived by the Los Angeles Lakers in order for the team to sign Marcus Smart.

Guys being dumped

The Utah Jazz have waived guard Jaden Springer.

The Boston Celtics have waived JD Davison. The Celtics picked up their $2.27 million option on Davison in June, but it was non-guaranteed. Davison was the 53rd overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft.

Davison was last season's G League MVP and was on a Two-Way contract in each of his first three teams with the Celtics. Davison ran out of eligible years on a Two-Way with the Celtics. Davison averaged 25.6 points, 7.7 assists and 5.1 rebounds in the G League this past season.

Davison could compete for a roster spot or a Two-Way with another team.

A couple of pickups

Colby Jones and the Detroit Pistons have agreed to a Two-Way contract.

Lindy Waters III has agreed to a one-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs.

I would have loved Lindy Waters III here. He played well for GSW last season prior to the trade. Competes both ends. Shoots the 3 well. Nice pickup for San Antonio.

Probably but they likely won't use it trying to stay under the 2nd apron. I think it only allows like mid level and one year for a contract.

Lakers are apparently the favorites to land Robert Williams if he is traded. This might be the worst off season ever for Celtics fans.

TyTy Washington Jr. has agreed to a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Jordan Miller and the Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a Two-Way deal.

Miller was an All-Summer League First Team selection.

Nice to see TyTy get another shot.

The Philadelphia 76ers have waived Ricky Council IV. The Sixers converted Council from a Two-Way to a multi-year contract in April 2024.

Council appeared in seven Summer League games, averaging 18.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals in 27.8 minutes.

Last season, Council appeared in 73 games with the Sixers and averaged 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.1 minutes.

Williams is never healthy.  He's a waste of a roster spot at this point.  He's played 26 games in the last two seasons combined.  And 35 games the prior year.  I'm fine with Williams and Smart going to LA.  I think Horford will go to GS if he doesn't retire.
