@NBAPR
As tested during the 2024?25 NBA G League season and in effect for all 2025 NBA summer leagues, an unsuccessful end-of-period 'heave' will be recorded as a team?not individual?missed field goal attempt when all of the following criteria are met:

🏀 The missed field goal attempt took place within the final three seconds of the first three periods of a game.

🏀 The missed field goal attempt was shot from beyond the outer edge of the center circle extended (approximately 36 feet from the basket), as shown below.

🏀 The play originated in the backcourt.

It amazes me that guys care so much about stats that this has to be a rule.

I?m with PP on this. He said if you?re not taking the heave just to protect your FG% then that?s soft. And I agree, to make a rule for this is even more amazing.

Shams Trade -

Clipper get John Collins
Heat get Powell
Jazz get Anderson, Love, and Clippers 27 2nd

Interesting that Powell's value was a backend rotation player and a 2nd round pick.

Jazz did good to pump Collins value some.

Clippers may need some guard scoring help now.

Nice trade for the Heat. They needed another scorer since Jimmy left the team. A backcourt of T Herro & N Powell is an interesting duo. Not a high end duo but a solid one.

Clippers getting John Collins is interesting. They have no big forwards recently. I am guessing Kawhi did not like playing PF and asked them to get someone. So Kawhi slides back to SF, Harden slides back to SG from SF. N Powell exits the starting lineup to make way for John Collins. It will be interesting to see how J Collins & Zubac effect one another. I never like J Collins next to paint-only centers. And I think Zubac benefitted a lot from all the spacing LAC provided him last year. Now he will have less with J Collins there instead of N Powell.

I like Utah getting rid of John Collins. That J Collins & Markkanen forward experiment never worked. That J Collins & Kessler big man duo never worked. Getting away from these things is good for the team. Kyle Anderson will be more useful to the Jazz than J Collins was. He will impact winning more. A great team guy who knits things together. Utah needs that. Too many young & self-centered guys. J Collins being one of those self-centered guys.

Sucks that Miami lost Kevin Love. He did well for them as a floor spacing big man. Utah don't need him. They will probably buy him out.

Norm Powell another comp for A Simons in terms of trade value. Not exactly the same player. Powell more of an undersized SG but a legitimate SG. A Simons more of a tweener guard / combo guard who is not a legitimate SG. Both guys scorers who do little else. Norm an adequate defender. Close to average. A Simons is not. Near the bottom of SGs defensively. So not exactly the same but similar-ish.

I'd say Simons is younger and may have some room left to grow as a player, being 6 years younger.

On sheer value, that means Simons would be worth a solid bench rotation player (Anderson) and a future 2nd.

I still think we will get more than that.

Shane Battier used to avoid shooting heaves at the buzzer. Daryl Morey tried to talk him into doing it saying the Rockets do not include heaves in their shooting percentages / metrics. Battier said I know you don't but all the other teams in the league do. So he refused to shoot them in order to protect his shooting percentages in order to protect his value as a free agent.

Yossi Gozlan: The Jazz decreased payroll enough where they could pivot to becoming a cap space team. They can have $22 million in cap space if they waive KJ Martin and Jaden Springer?s non-guaranteed salaries. This would give them more spending as well as the $8.8 million room mid-level. 41 seconds ago ? via Bluesky

Maybe they are making a run at one of those restricted free agents who can't get an offer.

I doubt they are interested in Cam Thomas given they just dumped Colin Sexton who is the better player of the two of them. Josh Giddey is an option but he is looking for $30mil. I imagine the Bulls are happy to pay $22mil for Giddey.

Maybe Kuminga. Test the Warriors willingness to pay Kuminga. Even then, I expect they match that offer just to trade Kuminga at a later date. Match to protect a trade asset.

Ahh, Quentin Grimes.

That may be Utah's best bet. Give them a legit SG. Their roster doesn't have one. They have PGs and combo guards. They have SFs in Ace Bailey and Cody Williams. A SG could help balance out their starting lineup.

G: Isaiah Collier, Keyonte George, W Clayton Jr
G: Quentin Grimes, Svi Mykhailuik
F: Ace Bailey, Cody Williams, B Sensabough
F: Lauri Markkanen, Slow Mo, Taylor Hendricks
C: W Kessler, J Nurkic, Filipkowski

That is an interesting team. A move away from all those undersized backcourts. A move away from those big forward combinations. Legitimate wing players after having little to no wing players for last 2 seasons.

That's an interesting possibility. If the Collins-Markennan front court didn't work, I doubt the Kuminga-Markennan would. But could Danny make a big offer on Giddey? That'd be interesting for sure. I would still expect the Bulls to match though.

Wow the Clippers really beefed up their center spot with the acquisitions of Lopez, Collins, and Neiderhauser.

I sort of like it, but on the other hand, I think they should have prioritized getting a ball handling guard who can take some pressure off Harden, who is no spring chicken.

Who knows, maybe they?ll still end up with Brogdon or Chris Paul.

What they really need is Niang (more shooting at the 4!) and a 2nd round pick. That would be a great use of their cap space 😉

Heck, let?s throw em Tillman too!

I suspect that BOS could have gotten Collins for Simons in a similar deal, if they wanted.  Or that BOS could get a Collins-like player.  Powell is a veteran and may be of more interest to a team like MIA than Simons who is only 26.

Even if it "only" amounts to 3 years, $24 million, Luke did well for himself.  Our locker room took a hit this year.  Jrue, KP, Luke and probably Kornet are as solid of a group of guys as you'll find.

I don't understand this from an agent perspective, unless Indy had said they'd given their highest and best offer.  That's definitely a possibility, since Indiana ownership is notoriously cheap.

PR spin from Indy?

Pacers president Kevin Pritchard has confirmed that Tyrese Haliburton will not play during the 2025-26 season as he recovers from his Achilles tear.

"I have no doubt that he will be back better than ever," Pritchard said. "He will not play next year though. We would not jeopardize that now."

Probably something like that.  I would guess the Bucks beat Indy?s prior offer by a lot, and also probably gave them a short time to accept the offer so Turner?s team didn?t go shopping it, as Milwaukee had to jump through a lot of hoops to even make the offer they did.
