Jonas Valanciunas is preparing to close the NBA chapter of his career. According to BasketNews sources, the 33-year-old Lithuanian is close to accepting an offer from Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos Athens.

Nuggets just traded for Valanciunas.  If this is accurate, would they go after Horford?

So SAC does this trade to save money but now DEN doesn't have to pay the last 2 years on Jonas Valanciunas' contract?  And SAC is stuck paying Saric $5.4M?  The trade is not official as I understand it.  I wonder if this will void the trade or if this was part of the deal all along.  If SAC doesn't have to pay Jonas Valanciunas anyway, I am not sure they would still want to take on Saric.

Jock Landale has just been waved by the Houston Rockets.

Perhaps he is an option for the Celtics.

I would like that. Give Boston a 3rd center to go with Queta & L Garza. That Amari Williams guy should be a two way that goes to Maine. Not part of the main roster.

Landale would be good insurance. Particularly if Garza's defense continues to be so bad that he cannot stay on the court.

Another update on Jonas Valanciunas: Discussions are fluid between the veteran center and Denver, sources say, while he's received a lucrative offer from Panathinaikos in Greece. I'm told, though, that any outcome here won't impact the trade between Sacramento and Denver.

Wyc Grousbeck on Luka Doncic trade: If we traded anyone of that caliber, we would call everybody first.

I think if we traded somebody of that level?which we?re not?but if we were, we would call everybody. And it would probably leak out, but you just got to take it. And then you get five picks back. Or six. I mean, Bane got four picks and a swap. And they got like one pick?or maybe two. So, I mean, it just feels like? you know? Now they?re ending up with Cooper Flagg, but it?s not? it?s not all connected really that way. I don?t know. I just? I guess I feel like it must have been painful for them to do it. So, they didn?t want to let everybody know about it, probably. And that?s kind of human nature I guess.

Beal has 2yr/111M left on his contract.  I can't imagine that Beal will give them back much.  After the Dame buyout, it would be wild to have another team do a buyout and stretch to have 20M+ of dead money for the next 5 years.  At least the Bucks are desperate to keep Giannis, I don't know what the Suns motivation is.

I imagine they are offering him around $90-100mil. They will say Beal can get $10mil or so in FA. That was a better sales pitch if they did it a week ago before several teams spent their money. They could have sold him on the full MLE at $14mil being available for him. Maybe gotten him to give up close to $30mil on his contract.

They mishandled this.

Yeah, a very calculated response.

Another 50 win season.

Those West teams are going to beat up on each other. It will be hard to get 55+ wins. OKC and HOU are the only 2 I see doing that. Maybe Denver. The rest will be in that 47-52 win range. The gap between the 4th seed and the 8th seed will be minimal.
