If you?re concerned with KP?s injury woes, it?s the same or probably worse with Markkanen. I?d be happy to take him but not for JB.

Sorry Danny, but the Jazz are a Hot Mess!  No one on that team I would trade JB for, I don't know if I would give up DW for Markkanen.  Way better deals could be had for Brown in my opinion. I definitely would keep JB in this scenario.

There are only 2 deals I'd be ok trading JB for.  Giannis and Coop.  Otherwise I want JB to stay.

if we don't have a solid 2nd option when JT comes back we are just setting the table for him to ask to be traded.
Do any of these trades get us a better 2nd banana better than JB?  They don't.   Talk about overthinking everything.

It seemed like Markkanen was on really good trajectory, but last year he came back down to earth and looked more like the Chicago version of him.

All of his numbers were down across the board - points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, FG%, 3p%.

That coming down to earth seemed to coincide with him landing his new big contract. I'm not really sure he is worth that contract. He's more in the Michael Porter Jr., Aaron Gordon, Kyle Kuzma, Tobias Harris, Andrew Wiggins, Jerami Grant, Harrison Barnes range of player. But he's being paid way more than any of them. On top of that, he's never really figured out defense.

I do think he'd be a great replacement for the Nuggets and Porter Jr. if they can swing that trade. But he's not a 2nd option on a championship-level team.

I think a lot of was the Jazz were really tanking last season and he just sat a lot of games. I wouldn?t be surprised if he reverts back to what he was a couple years ago. I think he?s a much better player than that group of players and can be a legit 2nd option or 3rd at the very worst on a very good team, that none of those other players you list can.

Giannis and Tatum would be great. 3 year championship window.  4 if JT miraculously returns to form in 25-26.  But we can?t compete for Giannis if other teams are going all in on him. At present there isnt much going on, but still, Milwaukee can?t get closer to a championship in the near term trading with us and they can?t really start a strong rebuild plan trading with us.

Replace Markkanen with Collins and Clarkson (try to reroute him to another team for a smaller contract) and at least two 1st round pick (including the best one from this year) ,maybe.

Rather keep Brown but that would allow a reset with pieces to rebuild around Tatum.

Brown, White, Porzingis, Hauser, Pritchard

For

Giannis, Lillard

It technically works though Boston would likely need straight minimums and some reduction to stay below 2nd apron.  And maybe you do that with Holiday though I'd like to keep him in that trade scenario.

You hope Tatum and Lillard are back for playoffs this year.  By taking in Lillard you give the Bucks a lot of value that other teams can't,  which can help bridge the gap on why they might take Brown as main piece for Giannis.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Interesting.  Lillard will be 36 in the final year of his contract (2026-27 season).  After that, you would free up cash to build around Tatum and Giannis.  BOS would be a lottery team and 2025-26 (likely no Tatum or Lillard), maybe decent in 2026-27 with a core of Tatum, Giannis, and Lillard.  Giannis is only 31.

Ironic if we end up traded (just about) everyone other than Jrue.

It?s creative - and I think I?d be on board.  If Lilliard and Tatum return to form, that?s got to be the best top 3 in the league. If Cs get a good lottery pick next year, that?s another potential piece.  Scheierman has good rotation player potential.  But, I still don?t see the Bucks plan with that return. Looks to me like a middle of the roster with not much future unless KP suddenly gets permanently healthy.  Am I neglecting someone on their current roster?

With Jrue Holiday on the books for 37.2 million in 27-28 you still wouldn't have any significant cap space in 27.

I had not realized Markkanen has missed so much time consistently every season during his career.

Year 1 = 68/82 games played
Year 2 = 52/82
Year 3 = 50/73
Year 4 = 51/72
Year 5 = 61/82
Year 6 = 66/82
Year 7 = 55/82
Year 8 = 47/82

Total = 450 out of 637 games played.

So Markkanen has missed about 30% of his games during his career. Not good.

It's a fair criticism, but I'll also add that in Years 7 and 8, Utah were hell bent on tanking. Hence, they would often shut down guys near the end of season, or even just have them sit out games. Sometimes they'd announce it like 5 minutes before a game. I say this as someone who sometimes bet on them lol, but there'd be games Markannen and others wouldn't be on the injury report, but then an hour before the game they suddenly get scratched. Or they'd be questionable for a whole week and not play any game.

I'm pretty sure Utah even got fined once for Markannen missing a game that the league deemed he could have played. And it probably highlights that this happened often with him.

But for this discussion I don't really care, as I'd rather #JKJB
