In a heartbeat. Not sure why San Antonio would. JB doesnt fit their timeline and his salary is outrageous. They should just stay the course and build out the team around Wemby using their draft capital.

JB to Houston makes more sense. Especially if we can get VanVleet back and waive his contract, saving a ton of money. They also have some nice assets to pick from: Smith, Whitmore, Sheppard, 2027 BKN Swap, 2027 PHX 1st.
You can't waive a contract.  You could buy it out and stretch the 44M over 3 years.  Carrying nearly 15M of dead money for 3 years just prolongs the problem.  That should be an absolutely last resort.  Much better options for reducing salary.

He?s talking about FVV?s team option for next year that has to be picked up by 6/29.

you cannot trade a player with a pending option prior to picking up the team option.

I saw this on Celtics Today and I thought it was interesting.
Spurs:
Devin Vassell
Harrison Barnes
2025 2nd "Dylan Harper"

Celtics:
Jaylen Brown.
I didn't do any checking on this, just posting what they had.  So, just for fun I was thinking about it and I would do it. I love Jaylen Brown, but, I really like Harper and I think Vassell has a lot of up side. So, for me this was a really intriguing option. Now, this might be complete wishful thinking that the Spurs would even consider it, But, Brown would fit really nicley with the Spurs roster.  Okay, all you guys who know way more than I do about trades can say if it is even possible?

I would do it if you get San Antonio to also include their 14th pick as well.

I wonder if the Celtics were able to pull this off if they could flip the 2nd pick and Jrue to Dallas for the first pick, Gafford and whatever else for salaries.

No they couldn't.  Short of getting tattoos the Mavs couldn't be any more clear.  The Mavs are drafting Flagg.  He's the only player they are working out for the #1 pick.

You don't need Barnes. Vassell is $27M and #2 slot is $12.3M. You only need another $3M or so to match salary for Jaylen.

Not saying I would or wouldn't do the deal, but the Celtics would be actively avoiding Barnes at all costs, as they would actually be taking $58.3M back in the trade. This would definitely be one of those trades that gets completed 30+ days after Harper signs his rookie contract.

For a minute there I was like why would the Celtics take a 2nd round pick for Jaylen Brown?

Then I realized you guys were talking about the #2 overall pick. Well that could be a superstar player in the future.

Brown is an all-star top 30 player right now though.  Is this the best we can do or can we somehow do a trade for #1 overall and Cooper Flagg instead?

D White, Dylan Harper and Devin Vassell would be a fun backcourt. I'd probably trade Pritchard somewhere else. Start D White and Vassell to begin with and bring Dylan Harper off the bench as a 6th man.

H Barnes, Tatum (when he returns) and Hauser at forward. Porzingis and Horford at center. Maybe find a long term Horford replacement by trading Pritchard. Or by trading Vassell.

G: D White, Pritchard
G: D Vassell, Dylan Harper
F: H Barnes, S Hauser
F: (Tatum), Horford
C: Porzingis, Queta

No true 2nd option in the starting lineup. Dylan Harper not ready. Porzingis too injury prone to be trusted. D White is more a 3rd/4th option. Same for Vassell. Barnes a 4th/5th option. Dylan Harper will take the job when he is ready but this team isn't a real contender until then.

If you do that trade I think the team should go full bore tank mode.  Trade Zinger and Holiday for expirings and late 1st type value.  See what you can get for White and if good enough do that.  Give Tatum all next year off. Add a high lottery pick to the team in 2026 (with Boston"s own pick) and then reassess next summer.  Total reset of salary cap, at least 2 top 5 picks, and a fresh roster to build around Tatum.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Actually, I don't hate this idea! I mean Zinger hasn't been able to stay healthy with any team he has been on. I Love JB, but he is a small forward/two guard. I would love a True PG. If you didn't watch Dylan Harper in college, he is special. I would keep White and by the time Tatum comes back, Harper should be starting. We would really need a big, but I can see a path to being really good again fairly quickly.

With most things I agree with you Moranis. White however doesn't have that many miles on him. In fact a lot less than Brown for example and I'm confident he'll be a very effective player in the NBA for a long time. White consistently has a top 25 player impact, but you'll never get equal value for him in a trade because he doesn't have the "all star" status.
