Second time Thib got fired with KAT on roster 🤔

Thibs deserves COTY for getting KAT to play some semblance of defense.

Seems shortsighted and ill-advised. Farthest the Knicks have gone in a quarter century, and very few expected them to get as far as they did, so fire the coach. Yeah, makes sense.

The writing have been on the wall for ages. Mikal Bridges who is an ironman that never complains, publicly spoke out against Thibs rotation policies.
Ah. Mikael Bridges speaks!

Seriously what right does that fraud have to complain about anybody.

He is a big part of the problem on that fake "superteam." They have a lot of well-paid players who don't compete when things get tough.

They also gave up 5 first round picks for him and he needs a new contract. So he?s got some leverage? or at least that how it looks. Maybe they trade him lol

I don't think your statement will come as news to anyone Jerry

Jay Williams is on ESPN talking about Rondo as a dark horse candidate to replace Thibs in NY. Jay Will wants a coach who is (1) innovative offensively (2) grit and grind mentality. Rondo fits that criteria. Jay Will doesn't like retread coaches. He likes giving chances to new people. Again, why he doesn't look some of the established names and is looking for an up and comer instead. Hence Rondo.

Jay Will also mentioned Mike Brown as a candidate.

Windy felt Mike Malone was too rigid. He also mentioned Taylor Jenkins as a candidate. Interesting shout. Windy also talked about Jeff Van Gundy but wasn't sure he wanted to be a head coach again. Royal Ivey as an outside the box candidate. Coach of that South Sudan team in the Olympics.

A guy I would love to see get another shot is Mark Jackson. His connection to NYC would be great. Grew up there. College there. Played for the Knicks early and late in his career. I'd love to see that one happen.

I do not know what "Thibsing" is, but if the Knicks can do it, more power to them.  :P

The main positive aspect of that is to get his annoying commentary off NBA broadcasts.

Jay Williams now talking about NYK needing to go after Ime Udoka. That they should pry him away from the Rockets.

His reasoning being he embodies the defensive mindset of Thibs but with a better offense + Udoka knows the Celtics inside and out which is an important advantage because they will have to compete against BOS moving forward.

He's got two years left on his HOU contract and imagine he'll be getting an extension soon.

Also, if you're looking at both teams, who has the brighter future the next 5 years? It's gotta be HOU.

Yeah but NYK can pay more.

They say Udoka is earning about $7mil per year. I don't know where that ranks him in the league but it is outside the top 10. Kerr is the highest paid coach in the league at $17.5mil. NY could double ($14mil) or even triple ($21mil) Udoka's Houston Rockets salary.

Thibs was earning $11mil for NY. That is already 57% more than what Udoka is earning. Phil Jackson was paid a huge figure when he went there as a GM. I think Phil was the highest in the league at the time. $60mil 5yrs back in 2014, 11 years ago, much more money then than now for a coach / exec who have seen major inflation since then. NYK are willing to spend big bucks on coaches / front office.

-------------

There are some reports coming out now that NYK are indeed interested in Udoka. Not just a Jay Will suggestion. Houston have responded by saying he is not available. They will not make him available. Looks like they will fight to keep Udoka.

That means compensation (on top of the big salary) to get Udoka out of that Rockets contract.

Quote
The Rockets have "no interest in entertaining that," according to The Athletic.

On a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if Udoka is fired by Houston at the end of next season.

The reason being the team is set up for regular season success / playoff failure. Back to back 50+ win seasons with 1st round exits will be hard to stomach.

Without a major trade, that is what I expect to happen for Houston next season. And I am doubtful they make a major trade. Their success this season has made them inclined to double down on their youth, trust their youth, develop them and take it slowly. I believe they are over-rating their own talent. Reality bites. It will strike the hard. And when they look for someone to blame, it is usually the coach who gets it.

Houston should absolutely make some trades.  They are a classic regular season team.  They need some better guys at top of roster. I'd love to move Brown there and get some of their draft picks and young players.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Haha. NY rumour mill went as far to track down Rick Pitino and ask him if he would be willin to return to the Knicks. Pitino had a successful spell there in the late 80s.

Pitino said "absolutely not".

I mean, does he really have a better offense? Every team he's coached has struggled at half-court offense, and that ended up contributing to their playoff loss. They need a coach that can actually run coherent offense if they want to win anything, and Ime has done nothing so far to prove that he can.

My biggest concern would be if they hired one of our top assistants (like Cassell)
I'm bitter.
