The Knicks are singularly focused on their pursuit of a championship and believe a new voice will serve as the focus for the organization's next step, sources said. After five seasons with the Knicks, Tom Thibodeau is out as head coach.

I know Thibs seems to have a ceiling with teams but firing after a conference finals appearance is a bit wild.  Especially when it was the farthest they've been since the Clinton administration.

No surprise at all, I even post in another thread after they lost that he probably get the ax?Michael Malone, Sam Cassell, Budenholzer probably be top 3 choices..anyone else got someone in mind???

Good decision. That team horribly underachieved during the regular season and never looked like they were capable of maximizing the talent on the roster. They should have been out in the 2nd round only for an injury-hit + epic choking from the Celtics. They have never looked convincing during this playoff run.

Thibs was the wrong coach. They were right to fire him. He did a great job the previous 2 seasons but he was all wrong for this current group. This current group is highly talented and can achieve more. Getting in a different coach and seeing if he can get them there is worthwhile.

I agree with the calls for Mike Malone. NY media was already talking about him during the ECF. I imagine there is some fire behind all that smoke. I expect to get the job.

He is the most miserable looking man I think I?ve ever seen.  If his demeanor outside of games is like his in-game demeanor I imagine he?s a tough guy to work with.  He helped us defensively and I?m sure he?s a solid coach but there?s only so much sour a team can take.

It is funny. He looks like Gru from the Despicable Me movies, but he's miserable every single time they show him on the sidelines with the exact same face and crossed arms:

I am not sure what other changes they will make but I predict that if the only change is the coach, that they will not be any better or make it any farther in the playoffs next season.

They have similar styles and are defensive-minded (Thibs plays his guys to the ground but otherwise mostly similar), but if the Knicks want a "newer voice" I don't see how that'd be it. Malone might be an even bigger hardo than Thibs too in terms of attitude.

This firing makes me uneasy.

Only because firing Thibs from New York, feels like an origin story of a Batman villain.

Malone had a lot of success designing systems around skilled centers. Jokic in Denver. D Cousins in Sacramento.

He would be a good fit in creating an offense where Towns has a larger role. Where more of the offense revolves around Towns. Getting him more involved.

What does this say about us? Thibs pantsed mazzula in the second round, the Knicks were horrible and should?ve never made it past us, injuries or no injuries. We choked.
