Brad's got some work to do to make this a functional roster if that is the goal. If the goal is to be a lottery team he is good.

This is just a reset year. What?s the point of having a functional roster this coming season.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Well, at least Maine will have two players the Celtics specifically believe can one day possibly help the Celtics. Competing with 29 other teams for undrafted guys can be a lot more complicated.

I know we aren?t very excited about the return for that juicy #32 pick, but we may not have room on the roster for two rookies anyway. If we use the future 2nds we received to help move Niang, then that?ll be a win.

Think I?m most intrigued by Shulga. 6?5/210lb guard. Averaged 15pts/6rebs/4ast with 44/39/78 shooting splits. Well rounded player. Looks like he has better handles than Baylor. Some nice one on one moves.

Tonight was a draft for Maine.

That tells me that Peterson and Davison will be on the big club. Now we wait to see how things shake out.

I think they get one of Al or Luke but not both.

if both these guys get two way contracts, what happens to peterson and norris?

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Maybe, but they do have a roster crunch issue. If the two second rounder are on two-way deals then they have 13 players currently under contract with three free agents: Horford, Criag, Kornet. If one of Horford or Kornet leaves, they'd probably still pursue a vet big to take his place, So that doesn't really leave a spot for Peterson as things stand.

You've got to think that one of Hauser or Niang will get moved.

If it?s between Hauser and Niang, that should be an easy decision to make. Especially when next year is reset season.

Seems generous.

Boston Celtics: C+

Round 1: Hugo Gonzalez (No. 28)
Round 2: Amari Williams(No. 46), Max Shulga (No. 57)

Gonzalez would have made more sense for Boston as a stash pick who would come over later in his development. Instead, Brad Stevens indicated the Celtics plan to bring him to the NBA next season.

On the broadcast, Gonzalez was compared to Denver Nuggets wing Christian Braun. One key difference: Braun, though not thought of as a shooter, hit 38% of his 3s in college. Gonzalez shot 27% at Real Madrid.

Williams is an intriguing prospect with multiple strengths as a rebounder, rim protector and facilitator at the elbow. However, he shot just 54% career on 2s, very poor for a center who doesn't stretch the floor. Shulga, the last of Boston's three picks, projected best in my model because of his 39% career 3-point shooting.

The best use of these worthless picks would be to package them with Niang and dump him.

Agreed. I wish we had of used the #32 pick to dump Niang. Free up that $8mil to re-sign Horford & Kornet. That would have been a much better use of this pick than trading down for 4 low quality 2nd rounders.

if this is a reset year, then they need to actually reset, which isngetting out of the tax entirely and full bore tanking.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Once the first two trades are completed, I expect there will be further moves to get below the tax line.  They should be able to aggregate salaries which will make doing so easier.  I expect their preference would be to move Simons and Niang and maybe keep Hauser.

As for tanking they should but I don't expect it.  It is going to be hard to tank with how weak the East is going to be.  Easiest way to promote tanking would be to be craptastic at center, especially defensively.  Rather than bringing back Kornet and Horford, I'd be looking at the worst centers on one-year deals.

Generous is a great analysis!  I'm OK with Hugo, but with 32, knowing we have really zero bigs right now, I'm keeping and taking one of the two that were there.  So for the 1st round, B+, 2nd round F, overall D+/C-.
