I'm still pushing for these trades
1. Hauser to Miami or Sacramento or anyone with a need for a cheaper 3-point specialist
2. Porzingis + 2 future first round picks for Kessler, Sexton and Sensabaugh
3. Jrue + 2nd round pick for Gafford + Hardy (involve BKN as a 3rd team to help facilitation)
1. I think trading Hauser to the highest bidder (picks, no one coming back or maybe a good player on a minimum contract) is a certainty. Doesn't matter where he goes.
2. Who are you giving up the 2 future 1st for? Financially this trade only saves 3M for next season. Sensabaugh isn't worth a 1st. I'm not interested in Sexton and wouldn't give up a 1st for him. I'm not sure I'd give up a 1st for Kessler but more importantly I don't see how Kessler fits the team since he's not a 3pt shooter. Does firing Joe and hiring a coach who will run a more balanced offense come with this trade? I might take the hit for that.
Even if I thought this was a good trade, both Sexton and Kessler are 1-year contracts. They could leave after next season and you'll ended up trading 2 1sts for Sensabaugh and he could leave the following season. And if they are desirable players it won't be cheap to re-sign them so the financials won't be improved. I'm not against trading KP but I don't think this is the right deal. Maybe if only 1 pick was involved and Sexton could be rerouted to the Nets without giving up no more than a 2nd. That would save 23M and get us under the 2nd apron.
3. I'm assuming adding Brooklyn doesn't cost us anything. Again Gafford isn't a 3pt shooter so how is he a good fit? He's not even a full-time starter for the Mavs. And finally he's on a 1yr contract so he could leave after next season; however I doubt he's going to be in great demand so probably could be re-signed for around the 14M he is currently making. Hardy on a reasonable 3yr, 6M per year seems like an okay backup. Not a bad deal but it would all come done to how much this would save financially.
Part of the logic with the Utah trade is, you fill out the roster even after losing KP/Jrue/Hauser, and you give up the extra first rounder to sweeten it for Utah to take back KP. Porzingis' trade value I don't think is gonna be that high, and it already sounds like there's more buzz for Jrue than there is for Porzingis. Plus you can get the big of the future with Kessler, and I still like Sexton and Sensabaugh as pieces on the roster. Sexton could provide some scoring next to White/Jaylen even if his defense isn't good. A move like this I believe still saves us 5-6M, which is way more in luxury tax money.
I like Gafford too. They will need to fill out the frontcourt with Horford also retiring probably after next season. In a way, this could be a "buy low" addition because Dallas is soon to have a crowded frontcourt (Lively, Gafford, AD, Flagg, etc.). Brooklyn comes into play because I don't think it's feasible to just do Jrue for Gafford, since there's like a 16M salary difference and Dallas is over the first apron. They'd just provide some additional salaries or picks to take on players.
