It looks exactly like Dame and KD's tears.

No way that is an ankle injury. It is a tear. Means surgery. Means a long brutal rehab. Means the future of this team changed in a hurry.

They still could have won this series. Now we are looking at a lame duck season. The highs and lows of sports.

We were probably looking at major changes even if Tatum didn't get hurt. We were crazy over the cap. To me the team should plan for a future without, KP, Jrue, and probably at least one other player. JT will be back, Injuries Suck, but the are part of the game unfortunately.

Its worth pointing out that since the start of the 2021-2022 season Tatum has played in 13,600+ minutes. That's the most in the NBA in that time span, 800 minutes more than the #2 player.

It was a tough load to expect a guy to play with for that long.

Jason Tatum may have a distal fibular fracture, Achilles tendon ruptures do not typically cause that much pain. #Celtics season has just ended. What a shame. Even as a #Lakers fan, I feel bad for the Celtics fan base and certainly praying 🙏 for the best outcome for Tatum.

Alternative perspective. It is a good point about the pain, as I can?t remember one where there was this much pain. Hell, KD walked off on his own with minor help. Same with Kobe.

Every injury is different, though. But have to imagine that this woukd be a better outcome than an Achilles injury, right?

Hard not to consider the implications of this. We got one championship, but we thought we had this year and next year to contend for a second. That's all gone now.

Can't imagine Horford comes back to a team that can't really compete for a championship next year. We definitely can't stay in the 2nd apron now, which likely means Jrue needs to be traded. While Zinger at his best can definitely help us win games without Tatum, he's proving to be unreliable and we only have him signed through next season. That means it may make sense to trade him too.

Next year becomes a developmental year for Brown and White's playmaking, while trying to develop Queta and a couple wings to be rotation guys, plus whatever we can get for Zinger and Jrue.

Get better soon Tatum. Your fans love you, and this is a major bummer for everyone.

We have not even talked about Brown's knee which might need to be cleaned up with surgery.

Anything is better than an Achilles.

That said pain with an Achilles injury is not uncommon. There's wide variation. Sometimes it's just a pop and discomfort, sometimes it feels like somebody took a hammer to your calf.

Dejounte Murray for example tore his Achilles in a game against the Celtics earlier this year and was in obvious pain.

Yes. It wasn't an act. JT was in a lot of pain.

I guess I am a total wimp because when I ruptured my achilles I was in agony! It was incredibly painful for the first half hour or so

I've now gone down a deep Google dive because of this lol I guess a lot of it depends upon whether it's whole or partial, which alot of times keeps the nerve intact leading to high pain. There's also the possibility of it being a calf tear and not actually an Achille's tendon rupture, which could cause more pain.

"Pain, possibly severe, and swelling near the heel. An inability to bend the foot downward or "push off" the injured leg when walking.

googled it, I was wondering why mine was so painful

Seen a lot of cases in person over the years, it really varies person to person.

At this point, I'd be shocked if it's not his Achilles.

When blowing three double-digit lead games in a playoff series wasn't the worst of it.

Losing Tatum to a career-altering injury is the worst. Sighhhh
