Appears to be a ruptured Achilles for Jason Tatum. Forced dorsiflexion. Obviously not the best angle but that?s the fear for sure #celtics #knicks @KnicksMuse
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

The only hope at this point is maybe he can come back in the 2nd half at some point next year, probably late Spring. It's definitely an Achilles though.

Non-contact, step foward motion, non weight bearing?.it?s 99.99999999% a ruptured Achilles.

He?s done for most of next year if not the entire year (if they?re smart)

Probably a good year to tank since we need to dump salary anyways

I posted this in the game thread, but his injury might change Brad's calculus as to how he manages the Celtics cap next season. Assuming he is out for all of next season and part of 2026-27, surely it will affect our window with this team as currently constructed. We should still be competitive without him, but if he is out, and KP isn't getting any less injury prone with a year left on his deal, and Jrue isn't getting any younger, Brad might decide next season is the time to reset the luxury tax and retool the team for 2026-27.

I know we all hate JB right now because he had a bad game, but it's plausible that Brad might ship out KP and Jrue to get under the luxury tax, that would be $63m ($30m and $33m) and bring in some younger guys to try and open a new window with JT, JB, White and PP the year after. He could also trade out JB for someone else, but because we're over the second apron we have to either find someone of equal or lesser value since we can't aggregate trades.

It puts this loss and this series in perspective when you consider the long term impact on the team's composition.

As for everyone saying "let's tank", we still have a pretty big payroll even if we shipped some guys out - tanking with a $200m payroll isn't really something that an owner wants to hear, especially a new owner  :police:

Looked like Dame. Looked like KD. It is a torn Achillies.

This makes it easy for Brad to move salary this summer. Cs going nowhere next season.

Good Point!!  I hear everyone saying Tatum would miss all of Next Year, Why?? I mean it is a long recovery, but if they did surgery right away, I would think 10 months would be a reasonable expectation. Of Course I am No doctor, but he should be back for the end of next season. Sucks no matter what, I pray for as good an outcome as possible.

Teams do it, though. GSW did it successfully, even with an older roster. PHI essentially just did it and got a high draft pick.

I agree that we probably have too much talent on the team to do so, though. A guy like Pritchard is such a floor raiser that he'll win several games on his own against inferior competition. And it's not like Derrick White is suddenly going to start sucking. We also have to assume we'll actually get good players back for trading everybody.

They should know pretty quickly! When I ruptured mine I heard a pop and knew right away.

They have physical tests that can virtually confirm this with pretty good accuracy in the locker room. It may be a good thing that there's not reports out there yet unofficially confirming this as a fear or concern for the C's and that they're going for a MRI tomorrow.

May be me just being overly hopeful, but it's a possibility.

And it's not like Derrick White is suddenly going to start sucking. We also have to assume we'll actually get good players back for trading everybody.

I don't think GSW did it by choice though, as in they didn't clean house (unless I'm remembering it wrong). KD left, they traded Iggy away but Iggy wasn't a top level player at that point. They just couldn't win anything because of injuries - Steph broke his hand, Klay was out with his ACL, and they just didn't have a good enough roster to compete. But I didn't get the sense they made a premeditated decision to punt away the season. Same with Philly - my best friend is a Philly fan and he (like all Philly fans once they started losing) was begging them to tank halfway thru the season but it wasn't until after Morey made his "if you squint I think you can see we're still in it" speech and they were numerically out of the running that they shut down PG0, shut down Maxey and Yabu, and basically played a bunch of G-leaguers. In other words it was reactive rather than proactive.

I could certainly be wrong, but I don't know how well tanking for a season will go down with the players and the coach, unless Brad decides the window is closed and to reset the entire team. You'd be asking them all to waste a year of their careers, if so they may want to be traded rather than waste a year of their careers. As you say these are talented guys who have won a championship, so they might even be insulted if the perception is they can't do anything without JT. If anything they might want Brad to try and do something to shore up the team to give it a better chance to contend, instead of tanking.
