Simple question and if you find this offensive or stupid just don't respond. Just hypothetically what could Brown return for the Celtics considering his contract and our financial position where we can't take on a bigger salary and probably want to shred some (longterm) salary? Also since the Celtics would still be contenders it's likely they'd not want to take on a (longterm) bad contract with just picks. Which players would be available and (kind of) interesting for us and what teams would be looking to trade for Brown?

I think we?d be talking more of an upgrade with a guy who wanted out like Giannis or Joker . Would take more than Jaylen of course . Otherwise if we had to cut costs I still think he stays and others would go.

you mean the guys specifically acquired by NY to stop Tatum and Brown that couldn't stop Tatum last night?

need a better return than that.

(1) Scottie Barnes
(2) LaMelo Ball
(3) Jamal Murray = is he any cheaper?

(4) Amen Thompson & Jalen Green
                          or
Jabari Smith Jr & Jalen Green
                          or
     Sengun & Dillon Brooks

(5) Pascal Siakam
(6) Jaren Jackson Jr - great idea from other thread
(7) Franz Wagner
[8] Tyrese Maxey
(9) Devin Booker

(10) Deni Avdija & Jerami Grant & Anfernee Simons
                          or
Donovan Clingan & Deni Avdjia & Anfernee Simons
                          or
Donovan Clingan & Jerami Grant & Anfernee Simons

(11) Devin Vassell & loads of picks. Maybe Sochan.
                          or
Instead of Sochan put in Keldon Johnson.

Could Jaylen have enough trade value to get Stephon Castle? A Big 3 of Wemby, D Fox & Jaylen would be phenomenal. The Spurs might do it. So Stephon Castle + cap make weighs like Devin Vassell or Keldon Johnson. I don't know that San An has many big contracts anymore since the D Fox trade. Boston may need to include picks if Spurs have to give up both D Vassell and K Johnson in addition to S Castle.

(12) Lauri Markkanen

(13) Top 5 picks this summer from either Washington, Charlotte, Utah, Brooklyn.

Did you just put Giannis and Jokic in the same sentence with Sabonis.  ???

interesting options.  my thoughts:
1. intriguing but not without sweetener from Toronto.  Barnes has some good all-around skills but shooting isn't one of them.  don't see Barnes being able to carry the team when Tatum sits.
2. nope.  Ball's got a worse injury history and a far lesser player.
3. Murray lacks the consistency on the court and health to be worth trading for.
4a, b & c.  all intriguing.  C's get young players with potential and cheaper deals.
5. I think Brown is better and Siakam plays the same position as Tatum.
6. mentioned in the other thread that Memphis needs to add more to the deal, not the C's kicking in picks.
7. Orlando needs to send more.  Need a better grasp of Wagner's defense to know if he's a defensive sieve.  also, Wagner would be a suitable Al replacement but need to get someone to step in for Jaylen.
8. Maxey is intriguing.  typically healthy and productive.  not quite as good as Jaylen at his best but doesn't seem to have as many bad games as Jaylen.
9. Booker -- better offense but much worse defense.  comparable value but I like that Jaylen can shut down another scorer when he's focussed whereas I don't see Booker being much of an impediment
10. not enough.  3 ok/decent players would add depth but would prefer someone who's at least close to the same level as Jaylen
11. not nearly enough value.  Vassell, Sochan or Johnson aren't nearly as talented and we're in win-now mode so future picks aren't a priority.
12. Markkanen's an inferior player.  need more assets coming back.  reasonable replacement for Al but looking for a Jaylen replacement.
13. don't need a rookie unless it's Flagg.

Antetokounmpo and Jokic are impossible, if only because of salary restrictions. We can't take on a bigger salary than Brown. I find Sabonis intriguing. Not really sure which path the Kings are going. The playmaking and superb rebounding by Sabonis would gel really well with Porzingis I think, even though on first thought it looks a bit weird.

I don't think Ball and Thompson would be available if we offered Brown as the core piece. Maybe Charlotte is losing confidence in Ball, but I'd doubt they would like Brown as the new franchise player also considering age. And Houston does really need a first scoring option, but Thompson would be the last one they'd let go. I'd be thrilled to get Thompson by the way he has a great future.

Most of the other options you display seem quite realistic to me although of course not all are appetizing. Offensively with Tatum (first option), Porzingis (second option) and White (third option) I think the Celtics would be fine without Brown. We don't necessarily need an "all star" in return. I'd rather look for a underrated good allround player, defensively solid, who flies a bit under the radar on a team without clear direction like White did at San Antonio.

Such examples could be Bane (Memphis), Duren (Detroit), Williams (Charlotte), Kessler (Utah), Murphy (New Orleans), Ellis (Sacramento), Gafford (Dallas), Avdija (Portland) or Johnson and Claxton (both Brooklyn).

If we did this, Jalen Johnson would be the absolute perfect fit for a return. Get cap relief with a capable two-way wing. It?d also do JB a solid by sending him back home.

Not sure Atlanta would do that, though.
