I view Alvan Adams as the most comparable historical player to Al Horford.

Alvan Adams was an undersize high post center. He was a good jump-shooter, great passer, good ball-handler. Good athlete. Ran the floor well. 6-9 230lbs.

14ppg 7rpg 4.1apg in 27.5mpg in 988 career games.

A life long Phoenix Suns player. 2nd best player on their team that made the Finals in 1976 and lost to the Celtics. 13 year career. 9 years in the playoffs. 2 more trips to the Western Conference Finals.

Adams is a weird player.  His best season was probably as a rookie.  But, if he had a title, two NCAA championships, 4 more All-Star games, etc. I'd probably vote for him, too.

I think if the Celtics win this year he gets in.  If it were up to me, he wouldn't. I would have him in the Hall of Very Good.  But as many say, everyone seems to get in nowadays. 

Random sidenote - I also think it's strange that they look at college, but only if you had a good career in the pros.  No way Christian Laettner would ever get in, but Ralph Sampson gets in partly because of his college career.

I think you are right on a couple of things here. IMO, as a pro he deserves enshrinement in the Hall of Very Good but as it is not the NBA HOF fame, like Sampson he will likely get in partly due to his college career and two national championships.

My personal HoF criteria is stricter than the real one. I don't think his highs were high enough for my HoF but for the real one? Maybe. Taking college into account puts him pretty close.

He's currently at 14,582 points and 8862 rebounds for his career which is not all that impressive for a modern player.

One thing that's crazy is he only made 1 all defense team. He's been one of the best defenders in the league his whole career. He should've made a few more of those teams, and that would've helped his HoF chances.

Agree with you - and yes, I was surprised he only made one All-Defense team.  He's does whatever it takes for his team to win, and it's probably cost him in terms of stats and awards.  But you can definitely see it in how often his teams have made the playoffs.

I think he'll get in. Its probably close but 2 NCAAM titles and an NBA title bookending a long career with 5 all star appearances seems good enough given who is already in. If the C's win again this year i think its more or less a lock.
