Victor Wembanyama has a form of a blood clot in the right shoulder. He is out for the season. The Spurs believe this is an isolated condition.

I always get scared when I hear about blot clots.  I immediately think of them ending Chris Bosh's career.

Wemby out for the season.

WOW. I suppose the good news is the idea that its considered an "isolated" thing.

This also means that Wmeby won't hit the 65 game mark, which means no All-NBA or DPOY for him this year.

This is a very serious issue.  I pray this does not end the kids career and is an isolated incident.

A deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the right shoulder is not necessarily career-ending for an NBA player, but it is a serious condition that requires careful management. The biggest risks with DVT are blood clots traveling to the lungs (pulmonary embolism) and the potential for long-term vascular issues.

Factors Affecting Return to Play:
Treatment & Recovery Time ? DVT is usually treated with blood thinners, which increase the risk of bleeding, making contact sports more dangerous. The player may need to be on anticoagulants for months or even long-term.

Underlying Cause ? If the DVT was caused by repetitive arm movement (such as shooting or passing), it might be linked to Paget-Schroetter syndrome (effort thrombosis), which can sometimes require surgery.

Risk of Recurrence ? If a player is prone to clotting disorders, they might be at higher risk for future episodes, complicating their career.

Medical Clearance ? Some teams may be cautious about allowing a player to return due to liability concerns.

Probably not the most important thing, but this means he won't be eligible for All-NBA or DPOY.

Hopefully this is a one time thing and he makes a full recovery.

Doncic has also missed the games played requirement, Giannis has miss 12 games so if he misses 6 more he'll miss the games played mark as well. Its possible there will be two open spots on All-NBA first time after Shai/Jokic/Tatum.

Yep. Multiple clots is what ended Chris Bosh's career.

Hope this is indeed an isolated incident that doesn't impact the kid's life or career.  Blood clots are scary.

That is the Spurs out of the playoffs.

Good news for the teams around them. Phoenix are currently the team outside of the play-in spots. 11 teams going for 10 spots so only one team will miss out now that San Antonio will not make it.

Ahead of Phoenix (11th) is Golden State (10th), Sacramento (9th), Dallas (8th) and Minnesota (7th).

Sacramento looks the weakest of those 5 teams to me. I hope they are the one to fail to make it.

Speedy recovery and hope he gets the best care possible. Anything dealing with blood clots are serious issues.

As from a competition standpoint:
Spurs are out of the playoffs then. Phoenix is the 11th seed and don't think anyone else behind them will catch up for the play-ins.

Man that's scary. I hope he receives the best medical care and gets better. This might put the start of next season in jeopardy for him too, blood clots are no joke at all.

In basketball terms, yeah I thought San Antonio would be a *scary* play-in team or first round opponent for anyone to play but without Wemby they might as well just tank for a better pick. I believe Fox is also dealing with an ankle injury, might be better for him to get a procedure done or rest it later in the season and get ready for 2025-26.

That stinks. He's fun to watch.
