Let me give you all the inside scoop. I connected with my rep and was informed that pricing now scales with attendance..if you aren't attending a lot they bumped up your price more than others. My 2 seats are now 18k for next season. I am officially not renewing even though they offered. They told me this is how they are pricing now. The best part? This season I had a few games that didn't sell period, several sold at a loss and when looking at seats up for sale - the number of seats that aren't being resold has increased dramatically ( 9+ in my loge) meaning their retention is going down. I certainly hope those wait-list folks are ready to pay 9-10k per seat per season in loge because I'm no longer doing so.
I?ll take a heaping of salt. While the Celtics have implemented rules to ?encourage? STMs to go to more games, a system of surreptitiously punishing those who don?t would be inconsistent with such a goal. If you are going to raise prices to get people to go to more games, you?d want them to know.
The Celtics raise prices for one reason: because they can. They know exactly how much people are reselling tickets for and want to capture as much of the difference as they can. And who could blame them? Besides, STMs don?t generate as much revenue as one-timers. STMs don?t need to buy souvenirs, eat at the game or generate Ticketmaster fees. STMs generate goodwill for the team and a reliable source of revenue, even if they?re not the most profitable customers.
It seems to me that the Redditor either misinterpreted information from their rep or was just p---ed about how much their tickets went up. I don?t know of any reason to believe that the Celtics have moved away from the Cohort/Location combination that they?ve always used. And while I can?t speak for everyone, my ticket prices have been round numbers (ending in either a -5 or a -0) for about a decade now. That doesn?t happen by accident.
One other note, regarding the resale comments: While not everyone has the same resale experience, I have data going back six years on my own resales (and anecdotal information from before that, since I can?t find those records). Tickets this year are selling faster and for higher premiums than they have in any past year. Again, I?m not trying to start a debate about resale pricing, but the Redditor?s comments about resale are inconsistent with what I?ve seen.
