Just finished EP1. I thought it was a bit dragging on some parts. Overall it was ok though. Looking forward to EP2.

I?d score it a 6 out of 10. Hopefully the next episode is better.

I loved it.  I thought it was very well done.

Watching Episode 2 ...................... Look, apparently the intention was to do a documentary on society in America surrounding racial issues with a large focus on Boston. Fine. But don't promote this series as a documentary about the basketball team, so far it is not.

Finally, the second half of this episode focuses some time on basketball and the 8 straight titles and Red Auerbach.
And the glorious title of 1969 when I completely fell in love with the Boston Celtics.

I'm glad episode 1 focused as much as it did on Cousy. Episode 2 will certainly be all about Russell.

I wish we had gotten a little more about Heinsohn and Sharman in the first episode, though, since, I'm guessing, we're not going to get much more of them as we move into the KC Jones, Sam Jones, John Havlicek portion of the Russell era.

Definitely! Sam Jones never seems to get the attention he deserves.  Probably because his career ran parallel to Russell and unlike players like Nelson and Satch, he didn't have much to do with the Celtics once he retired.

My dad speaks with great reverence about Sam Jones.  Jerry West may have the nickname "Mr. Clutch", but I'd wager that Sam had more clutch shots that contributed to championships than West.  Seemed like a guy who was pure money in the clutch and a reliable scorer and defender.

I was fortunate enough to meet Sam Jones once, well after his retirement. Nice as he could be. I just told him how his team was the one that made me a Celtics fan. You're right, he hit so many absolute clutch shots that won games. Bill Russell named him as his choice to hit a game-deciding shot over everyone else in history.

Episode 2: 6 out of 10. I was really hoping for something similar to ?The Last Dance?.  This doesn?t even come close.

I am enjoying it. Episode 3 was good as it leads into the Bird years. I think now that they are out of the 60s and 70s timeline they will focus more on the basketball. Episode 3 is also pretty heavy with the racial issues in Boston at the time.

Found it interesting Cowens didn't sit for any interviews for this doc.

I totally agree. I barely care about Jordan and the 90?s Bulls but The Last Dance had me on the edge of my seat.

Celtics City - even though it?s about my favorite team - is just kind of meh.

I think Russell said that there were seven instances when they needed Jones to hit the shot, and he made it every time.  He didn't want the spotlight, but any time he was asked to step up, he did it.

This isn?t supposed to be the last dance. The LD was based on behind the scenes access given to the bulls for the 98 season & is more season based. And it was also a Jordan puff piece. Everything you saw was given the ok by MJ. It?s one man?s perspective. If you want the rah rah Celtics stuff you can find that easy. I just watched game 5 86 vs Hawks 3rd Q and G6 vs the rockets on you tube. Then I saw the sweet 16 doc on that season. Sounds like that?s what you want. Simmons said on his pod that this was not gonna be that. It was gonna be the Celtics history & how it relates to the city of Boston. And race , like it or not, is a huge part of that. So I?m really looking forward to the Bird stuff. It?s an A+ so far from me.

Celtics City seems to want to be some hybrid of The Last Dance and OJ: Made In America (using the sports angle to tell a broader cultural story).

Despite being 9 episodes, it weirdly feels like it's missing a lot. The first episode barely mentioned Sharman or Heinsohn. None of the first episodes said anything about Walter Brown. Episode 3 spent about half its runtime on one game and too much time with Bill Simmons and his dad.

Yeah, the Simmons and his daddy segments, I can do without. But not surprised given junior's ego.

Wow, the comments by Parish about not helping Bird during the 76ers fight was surprisingly candid. If I had been Parish, I would have taken that up with Larry privately and not by walking away from a team fight. I didn't blame Parish for being upset with Bird though.

The other surprise was Dennis Johnson being so initially disrespectful to KC his first season. Loved the way that Max straightened him out.
From everything I ever saw, DJ eventually fell in love with being a Celtic.

So ................. does anyone have any insight about Cedric Maxwell's recovery from knee surgery in 1985 ?

Max claims he worked very hard at the rehab as ordered by the doctors and Celtics staff. Bird claims that Max signed his new contract and was content with his money and taking his time getting back to playing shape. Which side is more accurate ?

Ironically, of course, 1985 was the same playoff season that Bird stupidly busted his hand in a bar fight and screwed up his shooting for the finals vs the Lakers. He did not have a good series.

I guess both guys are human after all.

I cannot wait. 9 part series. It is going to be fantastic. Already got tears just watching the trailer. Simply the greatest franchise in professional sports.

as a diehard celtic my whole life that is arguable. sorry. sure we are the best in BASKETBALL. the montreal canadiens are the best in hockey 24 cups and the yankees in baseball with 20 something titles.
LET'S GO CELTICS!

I liked the latest episode.  One thing I think is interesting is how much they have to leave out.  Leon Powe's huge Game 2 wasn't mentioned.  At the time, I remember people made a big deal that Phil Jackson mispronounced his name (even though he corrected his mistake like a second later)... Also, in previous episodes during the dark days of the C's, they didn't even mention Nique.  I guess in the scheme of Celtics history, he didn't have a huge impact, but I would have thought they'd dedicate some time to him.
