Craig is an emergency depth guy. I'd be shocked if he's able to break into the top 9 of the rotation when everybody's healthy. But he gives you an extra body in case of injuries or rest days in the last 30 games, so that's nice.

Its worth remembering, guys signed during the buyout period almost never contribute that much.

When did we sign PJ Brown back in the '08 title season ?

Late February.  And Cassell was early March.

I also thought about PJ Brown and Sam Cassell in '08 when thinking about Craig joining this team. Brown played 11.6 mpg in the regular season and 13.6 in the playoffs while Cassell played 17.6 in the regular season and 12.6 in the playoffs.

I think we're going to see a similar-sized role for Craig. He's younger than either of them, plays a position of need, and played 9 minutes in his debut last night. He'll be on the fringe of the rotation but will regularly get 10-12 mpg because he's a veteran who plays both sides of the ball and knows how to fill a role.

I think Craig is our 9th man, and very good Hauser insurance

Starters: White/Holiday/Brown/Tatum/Porzingis

Bench (in order): Horford/Pritchard/Hauser/Craig/Kornet

Emergency Depth/Garbage Time: Queta/Peterson/Walsh/Baylor/Tillman

I have zero problem with the quality or depth of the bench.

About right. You could swap Craig and Queta depending on needs. Queta has played some significant minutes this year that has not been garbage time.

Yeah, it's hard to complain.  In an ideal world we'd have one more bench guy capable of creating his own shot, but our top-11 is quite good.

I saw a mixed bag in Craig's first 9 minutes.  Glad he got in before the break.  Something to build on.  Through the balance of the regular season, with wear and tear and rest, we could see 11 or maybe even 12 players that get some regular minutes.  Not 11 or 12 if we have the full roster, but there will be some that see real minutes in some games and then none in others.

Holiday      Pritchard    (Davison)
White         Hauser      Scheierman
Brown        Craig         Walsh
Tatum        Horford      Tillman
Porzingis    Kornet        Queta

Come playoff time, assuming we have our top 7, there may not be minutes for both Hauser and Craig or for both Kornet and Queta.  It will be the starters plus Pritchard and Horford, the top 7 is a given.  Then I see one of Hauser and Craig playing as the 8th, but not both.  It will probably be Hauser, not sure there is enough time for Craig to beat him out, if he is actually even better, but maybe.  I don't see much value in a platoon for them.  If Hauser is healthy and playing to his potential, I see no reason to play Craig in the playoffs.

Then there could be some run for Kornet as the 9th but maybe not.  Last season I recall Kornet playing when Porzingis didn't but not playing when Porzingis did.  Tillman had some cameos filling in for Porzingis too, but that probably doesn't happen this season.  Tillman and all the rest are likely garbage time only.

It actually works out pretty well.  We have our top 8.  Then you have decent insurance with Kornet and Craig.  If anyone beyond this is playing in the playoffs, we are either winning big, losing big, or there are injuries.
