The Boston Celtics are trading Jaden Springer and their 2030 second-round pick to the Houston Rockets, sources tell ESPN. Both teams are also exchanging heavily protected second-rounders.

The Celtics salary dumped Jaden Springer to the Rockets.  It cost us a 2030 #2.

Well...I think this means Boston will try to do something on the buyout market or maybe the move Tillman.

Would love to bring Lonnie Walker back.

Yeah, we're at 13 players, so we'll sign somebody, make a trade or convert a 2-way player.

I've gotta say, trading for Springer was one of Brad's rare trade misses.

Having him here for less than a year cost us two #2s, and the opportunity cost of not signing a free agent in his place.

Can they go sign Walker at a vet minimum now? That to me would be better than any buyout.

Trade impact: Boston/Houston

Celtics

Tax penalty: $65.6M to $50.2M

2 open roster spots

Rockets

Jaden Springer: $4M, RFA 2025

The Rockets are acquiring Springer with part of their $12.8M non-tax ML

I guess that kills the dream of using him to bring in a player making more than the minimum this year. This is purely a cost (tax) saving move.

This has to be Brad's biggest L, which is pretty impressive when you consider how active he's been. 3 2nds for a year of Springer is a waste, but not really consequential
I'm bitter.

Lonnie time?  Or are we just saving money?

Springer didn?t pan out for us really but I did enjoy watching him win the Clippers game for us.

I think we can all agree that if we had known this would be the worst deal that Stevens made, we'd take it.

Maybe the only Stevens deal that didn't work out. Can't really blame them for saving 15 million dollars if all it cost was a guy who never plays and a far distant 2nd round pick.

Does leave two open roster spots. I imagine they fill at least one of those.

Unless I am mistaken, we can still use his TPE in the next day to bring in someone. Since we can neither aggregate nor take back more in salary, there isn?t the same incentive to get all the ducks lined up in a row.

Not necessarily.  The trade isn't official yet, and there's still time to add to it.  I'm not sure that that's likely, but a lot of times these reported deals become multi-team deals.

I'm not sure if we can use a TPE or not -- I thought 2nd apron teams couldn't generate TPEs -- but it's easy enough to delay the trade for 27 hours.

Keith Smith said the Cs have to have at least 14 players and he expects Boston to use all 15 roster spots.
