Discuss?

Mavs must have some strong hate for Luka.  That was a serious kick to his financial groin.  On the court Luka and Lebron will be interesting to see.  Mavs will be tougher to score on for sure.  See if everyone stays healthy.
Yup

it sounded like the Mavs don't want to pay a fat Luka 70 million a year.   Is that the gist of it?

I?ve done some digging on X and there certainly are a lot of conspiracy theories going on there. One has the new dallas ownership wanting to relocate to vegas , another is Nike trying to boost it?s image and it?s sales by putting Luka on the most marketable city in the league (ugh). Nico was once a Nike guy i think. It?s crazy how he was bent on trading Luka only to the Lakers. There has to be a logical reason for this.

oh I don't doubt that, I was just relaying what I had read, I don't have a big opinion about it myself, other than Dallas should have gotten a better return.

This was probably the single most shocking trade I've seen in my lifetime. If someone on the forum had proposed this trade two days ago the deal would have been mocked as insane.

This is the craziest and biggest sports trade in American major sports history.

Came out of left field.

Lakers get significantly better for the next 5-7 years while Luka is hitting his prime. Sadly, expect a title or two heading that way esp if he can now attract stars and players. Hopefully Giannis or Jokic do not come here but it's now an attractive option for them.

Dallas gets better in the short-term; maybe they'll finally beat Boston with an extremely great defense esp their front court in AD and Gafford. But long term, they will be done for, for many years. They went all in on this trade.

Dallas lost this trade while Lakers won this. If Dallas can't win title this year then yeah they lost it for sure. Lakers get a top 5 player and one of the best offensive players in the world. I hate that the Lakers always get the special treatments.

Sparz's doom and gloom has returned after nearly a week of absence with Celticsstrong down!

One of the worst trades of All-Time.

Dallas trades a top 5 player in Luka Doncic. A perennial MVP candidate that is in his mid 20s and has 10 years ahead of him.

Dallas receives AD who is 32 years old next month, injury prone, and has maybe 3 years of high level performance left in him.

A disasterous trade for Dallas. A home run for LAL. They now have their LeBron / Kobe replacement in place for the next 10 years. They will be one of the most sought after FA / trade destinations in the league. A big star to play alongside Luka (post LeBron) to be a title contender for most of the next 10 years.

I don't know what Dallas was thinking of. GM Nico Harrison saying they weren't winning a title without more defense. Then why did you sign Klay Thompson in the summer!

Kyrie Irving is not a leader. He never has been.
AD is not a leader. He has never been one.

How is this Dallas team going to compete for a title? It is not going to.

AD says he wants to play PF and not C. He is better at C. He is carrying lots of extra weight to play C. He will not play as well at PF as he did a few years ago. The only thing that has changed at the PF position since then it that is has gotten quicker, more athletic and more skilled. He is 32 years old and injury prone. He is not a leader.

Yeah, Dallas will be much better on defense but their offense has nobody it can play through. Neither Kyrie or AD are dependable. They both run hot and cold. You still have Klay who can't play defense at SG.

G: Kyrie, Dinwiddie
G: Klay, Jaden Hardy
F: Naji Marshall, Max Christie, OM Prosper
F: Anthony Davis, PJ Washington
C: Derrick Lively, Daniel Gafford

I'd like to see them start Naji Marshall instead of PJ Washington. Use PJ as a 6th man. He can get a lot of minutes backing up both the SF and PF positions.

I'd like to see LAL dump LeBron now. I do not believe in a LeBron / Luka duo. They are too similar. They both need the ball in their hands. Luka even more than LeBron. At least LeBron has become less ball dominant as he has gotten older. He realizes his limitations. The rest of the squad around them is too weak. Their guard play stinks. Their big man play stinks. They cannot win with Luka & LeBron.

I'd like to see them trade LeBron and whatever other long term contracts they have and get into FA. They will be the #1 destination in the league. Luka, LA, Lakers fame. Everyone who is looking for a change will want to go there.

Unfortunately, I think they will be loyal to LeBron and waste 1-3 years of Luka's career doing so ... when instead they could be reloading and building a top tier title contender.

FTFY  ;D The more time LeBron wastes with Lakers the better for us and the rest of the league.

I bet LeGM knew about this. He ran Lonzo out of town. Ran Westbrook out of town. And now ran Davis out of town. Don't forget the two coaches he fired- Frank Vogel and Darvin Ham. Believe nothing when he says he wasn't aware. He is the GM and he signed off on it!

G: G Vincent, Bronny
G: A Reaves, Cam Reddish
F: Luka, D Finney Smith
F: LeBron, Hachimura
C: J Hayes, C Koloko

(1) The guard play sucks
(2) The big man play sucks

Gabe Vincent is their only established backcourt player who can play defense. He has sucked for JJ Redick. JJ Redick does not like him. They had Max Christie as well but he is now gone. Bronny was their 3rd guard defender before the trade but now he is 2nd in line. They have no guard depth. I thought Bronny would get an opportunity at times during the regular season as their 3rd defensive guard but he will definitely get chances now as their 2nd defensive guard. Good news is that LeBron & Luka are PGs on offense so they can work with offensively limited PGs who can defend at PG. Bad news is they really need 3 point shooting at PG which neither Gabe or Bronny have shown they can do.

Lonnie Walker played for this team two years ago. They should go after him hard. Offer him the starting PG job. Let Gabe go back to bench guard. Put Bronny back as 3rd stringer.

The big man play is just as bad.

Jaxson Hayes is a below average backup center. Christian Koloko is a 3rd string project who has shown little development. They have no starting quality big man. They have no legit rim protection / interior defense.

-----------------

LAL if committed to keeping LeBron should dangle Hachimura, D Finney Smith, A Reaves in the trade market for a starting caliber center and a 3&D guard.

I wonder if they will start D Finney Smith at guard defensively (instead of Gabe Vincent). It is a big ask for DFS to chase around PGs. I am not sure he can do it. Max Christie could. Allowing Austin Reaves to stay on SGs. That might be what JJ Redick tries first due to his distrust of G Vincent.

I can't disagree more.  Lakers won this trade.  Luka is a heavily flawed and over rated half a player.  He literally plays no D at all.  He is a human turnstile.  Mav's acquired one of the best 2 way players in the league.  Top 10 in both o and D IMHO.  Lakers are going to get much worse, as they were calling for another big to start next to AD before, and now they have ...Max Kleiber.  Mavs are much more balanced, at least once Kyrie gets back.  Kyrie will cover a bunch of Luka's assists, and AD will pick up most of his scoring and exceed his rebounding.  Grimes will pick up a little more of  everything with the increased minutes.
