WILYER ABREU IS UNTOUCHABLE!

Yup, should've drafted him in my fantasy league. I picked him up for tomorrow, which means he'll probably go 0-for-4 with 3 Ks.

Crotchet looks like the real deal. Looking forward to watching him pitch this season.

Always good to start the year with a win...also, Wilyer Abreu is currently on pace to hit 324 Home Runs!  Go Sox!

It's funny. Abreu was the guy I felt the odd man out since Anthony/Mayer/Campbell were all coming up, and he's probably the piece to move in a trade for another great player. But that said, Abreu had a great year last season which culminated in a 3.5 WAR season and a Gold Glove. Then his performance yesterday. Some hard decisions could be coming in the next year or offseason. Even if we assume Story and a few others get hurt or suck, there will be a bit of a logjam.

BREAKING: Left-hander Garrett Crochet and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a six-year, $170 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN. The deal starts in 2026 and includes an opt-out after 2030. By far the largest deal ever for a pitcher with 4+ years of service.

Good day for the Red Sox. They beat the Orioles, snapping a 4 game losing streak. Crotchet went 8 innings, struck out 8 batters and gave up zero runs. Devers had 2 hits and is now batting 0.87%

They also just signed Kristian Campbell to an 8 year/$60M extension. Kind of cool they are getting these extensions done for our most exciting young players. I think they did the same thing with Rafaela last year (8 years/$50M).

The expensive vets on the team are mostly ass, but the future actually does look bright for the Red Sox

It's surprised me for quite a while now that MLB doesn't handle contracts similar to the NFL where only a certain amount is guaranteed and the team can release a player who's underperforming their contract.  so many players miss a lot of time or regress after signing a big contract

The MLBPA is arguably one of the strongest unions in the country and strongest in sports so there's no way they'd go for that.

There's also gonna be a lot of money coming off the books in future seasons (Bregman, Story, Giolito, Yoshida, etc.). In theory they could also have enough to make two splashes this next offseason (ideally for another legit #2 pitcher and a big bat) to supplement their current young roster and Devers, Crochet, etc.

If he's any kind of player (which he looks to be), that has the potential to be a huge bargain.  I'm not even sure why he's sign that deal.  Guys are making $20 million who are borderline all star level.
Yup

I made a $1 futures bet that the Sox would get at least 4 hits in every regular season game they play this year.  Pays $200 if I win.  They've already punched the ticket for today.  7 down, 155 to go.

Yup
