Salary cap rules prohibit us from signing any bought out player who was making more than the full Mid-Level Exception.  Simmons makes way more than that, so he's not a possibility.

So it was utter clickbait.  There was a spirited debate about him,, but based on absolutely nothing.

So let's switch to Who's point.  Yes, it is sad and shocking to how bad he has declined.

Yep, I remember that draft well.  There were a clear-cut top eight (although I considered it a top nine) among draft prognosticators, with Simmons and Ingram the two absolute blue-chippers.  After them, it was some order of:

Kris Dunn, Dragan Bender, Jamal Murray, Jaylen Brown, Marquese Chriss, Buddy Hield

Then most mocks had Jakob Poeltl, who I had in the mix for the top eight.

Jaylen had been #3 in most mock drafts until the college season ended, and then you started seeing him falling as far as 8th in projections.  Most had Dunn as the 3rd prospect.  But, again, #1 and #2 were set in stone as Simmons and Ingram.

Looking back, this draft could have been a minefield for Danny.  Instead, he hit an absolute grand slam.  I don't think he gets enough credit for that.

but he did miss on siakam and murray.
