Oshae Brissett didn?t have a huge role here but it was something. Energy, defense, strong rebounding and not disrupting the flow on offense. He eased some minutes at the 3&4. That role is up for grabs. Who fill those minutes this year? Is it absorbed in a different role?

Xavier Tillman and Sam Hauser should be able to absorb those minutes.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

If you asked me a month ago I probably would have said Scheierman, but I haven't been very envouraged by what i've seen from him thus far. You would hope a 24 year old rookie would be a little more ready to go.

This.

Brissett mostly played the 4 last season, if I remember right. Tillman has been hoisting the 3 in preseason, if that continues in the regular season he should have no trouble playing alongside Kornet and Queta. He'll obviously have no trouble playing with Horford and Porzingis. He can play some 5 when they need him to.

That's a lot of versatility and Brissett only played 11 mpg.

It's really even less than that.  Both had a lot of DNP-CD.  More in the 7-8 minutes range.
Yup

I agree that Tillman is going to get the bulk of those minutes. His defense and energy is high and his offense is better than Brissetts (regardless of if his preseason numbers are a real indication of improved 3pt shooting). I think we will see more traditional looking double big line-ups this year.

I disagree that Hauser will see his minutes go up much.  I don?t think he fills that same role. His minutes may get a small bump to help rest the Js, but he?s a different kind of role player, not the spark plug defensive energy shifter.

If Walker sticks, I could see him absorbing some guard minutes as I suspect Jrue to get a dozen or so rest days.

Jaylen usually misses some games due to small injuries and I?m hoping Tatum sees a small decrease in minutes. I?m not sure Tillman or Walker are great candidates for those minutes, probably a bit, but the guy I?m surprised no one is talking about?Jordan Walsh. He has looked really good this preseason, energy, defense, and very functional offense with his movement and spacing with or without the ball. I could see him carving out a role much like Brissett but more regular if Mazulla looks to rest the top guys more.

The deep bench has more capable options this year.

Yes, of course, but on any given night if called upon, this is what they gave.

Gleaning whatever we can from the preseason, it looks like Joe might prefer Walsh over Walker and Springer.  They could see him in a quasi-Brissett role.

I am completely stunned by Walsh...Never seen a guy go from Summer League Loser, to NBA player so quickly.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

I don?t know the answer but I?d guess the Celtics are HOPING those minutes are filled by Tillman or Hauser . I think Hauser is proven as an nba starting level player ( on some teams. We?re just stacked) .
He?s pretty reliable all around now. It coujd be wishful thinking but he looks a bit more comfortable putting a dribble down here and there. So if he?s not tired I think he?s the guy.
Next would be Tillman but I think his shot has to have improved. The Celts don?t want anyone out there who doesn?t need to be guarded outside the line.
I?d be surprised if Walsh?s shot is for real but he?d offer some size Lonnie Walker can?t.
Lonnie is a proven player I just wonder if he?s the type of player that needs reps and knows those reps are coming to feel comfortable to be productive. If Walker doesn?t pan out here I think he?d be very productive as a 6 or 7 man on many teams.

Brissett played a total of 630 minutes last season in 55 games.  But if you look at the 630 minutes over 82 games, that is on average 7.7 minutes, so not a whole lot.  He played much more when someone was out.  I think it is Kornet who will see more minutes with Porzingis out.  I think Tillman will see more minutes in general.  I don't think any of the regulars will play more so if they need to go beyond that, I guess it will be Walsh.  Walsh has looked better but I am not sure he can give us what Brissett did.
