I think NCAA titles, like NBA titles, are not consistently weighted for the Hall voters - and things like the Horford/Noah divide are a good reason why - Noah was arguably the better player in College, but Horford has the longevity (and now the ring) in the NBA to differentiate him.

It all gets complicated.  Bill Walton probably doesn't deserve to be in for his NBA career.  Grant Hill would be borderline.  But, they're fairly uncontroversial picks.  In their cases, the NCAA is wildly important.  Meanwhile, guys like Larry Johnson and Christian Laettner will never come close.
It's also undeniable that the bar goes up the further along in the sport's history you go (this happens in every sport) - so the sorts of accomplishments that might have got you into the Hall yesterday (or the NBA Top 50/75/100) won't necessarily get you in tomorrow.

I don't know that that's necessarily true with the Halls of Fame for baseball and football.  Maybe the NBA has lept the bar that high - higher than others anyhow.
Yup

I don?t think Jrue is done yet . He is steady force that drives the bus.

He has just reached the pinnacle of being a wily and crafty vet. The game comes easy for him and he knows how to protect his body.

He might have a better case if he'd won a DPOY, which, Rudy Golbert probably has one that should've gone to Jrue.

He has been a 4-time Teammate of the Year, though. That's pretty impressive.

I agree with this.  It usually takes more than 1 season for a player to fully integrate into a team, especially if the team is well established, like the Celtics.  Holiday should come back with more confidence to be a leader, to insert himself into the big moments.

The same is true for Porzingis, when he comes back.  He now has a full season with this core group under his belt.  It will be easier for him this season especially if his minutes are highly managed (which is expected).  It will be easier for him and the team when he does step in.

I think this team is going to be plenty hungry to repeat.  Tatum still has something to prove.  Brown needs to prove he can stay at a high level.  Porzingis is having more fun than ever in his career.  White, Holiday, Horford will all do what they do.  Of them all, the one I am even a little worried about is Brown.  I think he will be fine but there is a chance that all this notoriety will go to his head and he will try to do too much.

i'm reminded of when everyone was talking about how important continuity was to the san antonio spurs, and specifically if you think about their 2013 and 2014 seasons. they were so motivated in 2013-14 because they were already so good (nearly champs) and yet still had something to prove. even though the celtics won in 2024, there's a ton of motivation right now for tatum, brown, and kp especially and near-perfect continuity with the rest of the roster for 2025. it's not a bad place to start.

Once you add this past gold medal Olympic performance I think he is. He is a high impact player.

In the past, I would say no, but it seems like the bar has gotten lower over time. I still think he needs more, not another ring where he plays a significant role will probably do it. A related question - is he helps the Cs win another championship, do they retire good number? Howell, Chaney, Silas and Ainge are probably the best Celtics to win multiples and not go up into the rafters
