It looks really bad.

"Tatum has yet to hit a perimeter jumper for Steve Kerr's team this summer."

Well, he doesn?t play some games so that doesn?t help. It?s not like his form looks any different and he shot well during the regular season. I?m not worried.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

I think it was only the one game Tatum missed. He played the others. What is that? 7 out of 8 games? 5 warm up games and 2 of 3 group games.

Strange cold streak.

Reminds me of somebody out of practice .  Not doing the Ray Allen thing.  Putting up 1000?s of jumpers a week to stay sharp.

Practice Jason !

It's a bit worrying for me.  Not sure why but it feels to me like Tatum's shot has gradually gotten worse and worse over time.

Over his first three four seasons in the league he shot 46% FG, 40% 3OPT and 84% FT.
Over the next / last three seasons he has shot 46% FG, 36% 3PT and 85% FT.

His FG% and FT% have been relatively consistent, but his three point shooting has been a clear struggle area - he has shot below 37% only two times and both were in the past three seasons (and also happen to be the seasons with the highest attempts).

I hope he finds his shot again- with all the guys on the team drawing attention he really should be getting more open looks then ever and should be shooting career best percentages.

There?s a Facebook reels video showing Tatum?s jumper in 2024 vs 2020 which I can?t find now.

In 2020 he catches and shoots so smoothly. In 2024 though he catches, then pulls the ball tight into his belly in kind of a ?cock your gun, then shoot? mode, and then rises up for his jumper.

It?s as if a shooting coach told him he needs to begin every shot with the ball touching his belly button. And so now it looks completely robotic with this inane hitch as he starts his shooting motion.

There?s even a clip of Porzingis mimicking the robotic move while watching Tatum warm up.

His 20202 jumper has no hitch, as he just rises up smoothly and shoots with a feathery touch.

Tatum essentially shot 47/38/83 for the 23-24 season.

Blessing in disguise. He continues to perfect the mid range and go to the rim more often he will be a better scorer when his 3 pt shot comes back.

Olympic ball is just different and by December he will be good.

No essentially about it - that's just simple rounding.

the hitch does look real. however, it's correlative whether the hitch is related to the recent shooting struggles. he's always been streaky. he might just need rest and reset.

Tatum was exactly 37.6% from 3 on 8.2 3PA in 2023-24.  Career he is 37.5% from 3 on 6.7 3PA.  He has been as high at 40.3% on 7.1 3PA (2019-20) and as low as 35.0% on 9.3 3PA (2022-23).

I am not sure there is any issue, but this is something he could work on.  I am not worried about what happens in the Olympics.  I would like to see him tick his 3P% up a bit and his overall consistency.  He seems to be streaky.  He will shoot 40+% for a couple of months and then 35% for a stretch.  This is probably statistically normal, but it looks like he has good streaks and bad streaks.

It didn't just start in the Olympics.  Tatum shot 28% from three in the playoffs too.

We're building a fairly significant sample at this point.  I'm no shooting coach and I'm the wrong person to say if a player's form is broken.  That said, in the playoffs I noticed that his catch-and-shoot motion had gotten so long that the defense's closeout was actually taking away the shot, even when he was wide open on the catch.  Whatever his issue is, I hope he's able to fix it going into next year.

Tatum needs to watch film of younger Tatum to figure out what he's doing wrong now.
