So if I am interpreting things correctly, Celtics have $194M in active contracts plus they have to sign Scheierman at about $2.5M so that will put them at about $196.5M?
Tax Threshold: $170.8M
Expected Taxable: $25.7M
There are tax brackets now. The luxury tax bill per Spotrac on the active salary ($194M) will be $56.2M. The added $2.5M for Scheierman will be in the 6th bracket, repeater, so the tax will be 5.25X or about $13.1M. If we sign a vet min at $3.3M, the cap hit is $2.1M, so the tax would be $11.0M.
Someone please confirm, is my math right?
So a vet min for the 15th roster spot would cost up to $3.3M in cash plus $11.0M in luxury tax?
The second apron is $189M I believe, so we are over that in any case. Does it really matter how much we are over the 2nd apron, other than the tax bill?
