Honestly, the only guy I was terribly impressed by in summer league was Queta.  I see him as a potential breakthrough rotation guy until KP returns.  Last year, he displayed an ability to change games that most third-string guys don't possess.  If the consistency improves, he can help us.

Springer had a very good game against the Heat and didn't play otherwise.  Hard to take much from one game.

Scheierman and Watson both see the court well, and I generally trust Scheierman's shooting ability even if the results were mixed in the summer league, but both have significant footspeed issues that they'll have to overcome in the league.

Nobody else caught my eye really.  First time I've ever seen Walsh hunt his own shot like this and the results were ghastly.  Davison isn't dangerous enough offensively to overcome his negative defensive value.  Peterson was disappointing, though I actually like his skillset (he isn't the Hauser clone this board apparently thinks he is - if anything, his lack of an elite outside shot is one of the things holding him back).  Ramsey shot well, but I don't put a lot of value on microwave guards getting hot in the summer league - odds are high he'll never have that kind of green light in a real game.  House, Harper, Tillie, bzzzt.

Queta looked like he was too good to play in Summer League. That is where we should want our 25 year old center to be if we want him to contribute.

Our ability to keep Kornet and Queta this off season has eased my concerns over the pre Kristaps squad.

Was that our last summer league game?
Another one on Sunday vs. Philly.

This last game, all of the more established players did not play:

N. Queta
D. Peterson
J. Davison
J. Springer
J. Ramsey

Queta and Springer have regular roster spots, so no real need to play them.  Walsh has a contract also, but I am not exactly sure how his guarantee works.  I think his salary for 2024/25 is guaranteed, so I doubt he is going anywhere.  He will spend most of the season in Portland it seems, he will just have a regular contract.

It makes sense that they don't need to see any more of Davison and Peterson, for better or worse, they know what they have in these two.  Not sure what to make of Ramsey not playing.  I highly doubt he will get the last regular roster spot, but it is possible, just with little or no guaranteed money so he could be waived easily if needed.

I guess they can bring all these guys to camp, whether on Exhibit 10 or 2-Way contracts, and let the competition continue.

Ramsey has 39 games of NBA experience and is 23, so perhaps he?s looking for more PT than he would get here. If so, Celtics would do him a favor by making a decision on him soon.

How do folks feel Summer League went? I found it to not be very entertaining but more importantly, I wasn?t too impressed with individual performances. Queta and Springer were fine but that is no surprise.

Overall, I give this year?s SL a grade of C.

JD looked like an NBA player...I was impressed. Walsh looked terrible on offense. I'm not sure if he will ever learn to shoot.

Luckily Walsh is younger than about 60% of the 2024 draft class, so he still has some time to fix things.  It would be nice if he were ready to help this year, but he is not yet needed.  The more encouraging thing about summer league to me was that Springer needed only a single game to show that summer league was beneath him.  I think he will find minutes during the regular season.

if springer can consistently make his 3 point shots he will have a valuable role on the celtics. his defense is already far above nba-average, his problem has been his shooting, or lack there of. his FT shooting is good (87.5% last year) so he MIGHT be able to develop a 3 point shot.

springer is only 21 years old. last season with the celtics he averaged 3 steals per 36 minutes, albeit in limited time.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
