I saw a blip from Shams Charania that we resigned Xavier Tillman to a two year, $10mm deal, but I haven't seen it anywhere else.  Has anyone heard or seen anything that confirms this?

I know Tillman is more of a role player for us. But I really like him and was excited when we traded for him. He's one of our best interior defenders and brings real physicality and toughness to our front court. I was hoping to see his role increase with more regular minutes this year. I think he's a great glue guy for us and can guard the 2-5 positions fiarly well.

That was a fake account who cited Shams.

As a rule of thumb everybody unless you see something directly from a Shams, Woj, Haynes ect ect verified account assume its fake.

I saw a homeless guy on the side of the road holding up a piece of cardboard that said: "Xavier Tillman got a two year, $10mm deal"

That seems like a fair deal but there are so many overpays so far that I could see him getting 4 years 48 million from someone...

Well, we have started a thread for Tillman so I guess now they have to sign him.

4 years/$22M seems like a lot based on what they paid Kornet.  Tillman is still only 25, so there is some potential ceiling there.  He may well be worth an average of $5.5M per, and that may end up being what it takes to beat a taxpayer MLE offer, but I have my doubts that the Celtics will pay that much.

If everyone is healthy, Tillman is probably the 4th big in a rotation (behind Porzingis, Horford, Kornet), on a team that probably only plays 3 bigs on a regular basis and maybe only 2 bigs in the playoffs.

Now if you consider that Tillman beats out Kornet and is the 3rd big, that changes the rotation, but Kornet was the guy all season over Tillman and even in the playoffs (with Porzingis hurt) until Kornet got some injury.  I am not sure that guy is worth $5M+ with the situation that the Celtics are in with the taxes and aprons.

Nothing shocks me, but I wouldn't give him close to that.  The fact is, he's undersized for a center, and he's below average at scoring, shooting and rebounding.

The money is starting to dry up.  I?m not sure he?ll come back to Boston, but I think $5 million or so will be the top of his AAV when he signs.

I think the 4 year 22 million is a more than fair deal for Tillman. But the NBA does crazy things...

Tillman is a career 26.7% 3 point shooter.  He was 24.7% last season between MEM and BOS combined (although 1-1 in the playoffs).  Isn't really a slasher or lob/dunk threat.  He is a good athlete, decent size for a PF these days although definitely a little undersized (I don't think size or length is his problem), but if he can't find a way to score, I don't see anyone paying him all that much.

He is testing the market.  Good for him.  He has every right to do that and it is the smart thing to do.  But last season he had a hard time beating out Luke Kornet for minutes.  I think he will be better if he does come back to BOS.  It is tough to join a top team in the middle of the season.  More opportunities to find his role and settle into it if he is here from the start.

Tillman would look on the Knicks as their backup center.

He'd suit Thibs well.

That would be a good fit. How much do the Knicks have left to sign a guy for?

It looks like The Jazz, Hornets, and Spurs are the only teams with cap space. Is there a good fit on one of those teams?

He'd fit nicely into the MLE too nicely for a team.

In looking at the center market, it seems like most backup / fringe starter guys have been in the $5 million per year and below range, with the random exception of Goga Bitazde.
