Not sure if anyone listened to the radio broadcast last night, I had it on during my drive home after the Celtics had won and to me it sounded like Sean Grande was saying his goodbye to the team.

He thanked Cedric for 20+ years of partnership, made comments like I will forever by thankful to the Celtics organization and how he will always be remembered as one of the voices of the Celtics. It was a very odd 2-3 minute wrap up to the end of their show and definitely sounded like an emotional goodbye.

Did anyone else happen to hear it?

No.  That would stink.  Do you think maybe he is sore because he got passed over for the TV job?
Yup

That would be my guess.  Too bad, will be missed.

Maybe he got offered a TV job with another team?

Honestly maybe it was nothing, but it was a strange ending to the radio broadcast.

Could also be that his contract is up & hasn't been extended yet. Better to say something if you're not sure whether or not you'll be back on the airwaves.

Too bad if true. While I have some issues with Grande, I?d take him in a heartbeat over millennial Drew Carter every day of the week.

Looking up Grande now, looks like he was already a TV broadcast play-by-play man for the Timberwolves from '98-'01 (thought it was a radio gig) before he jumped to Boston radio, which I find a little odd because going from TV to radio feels backwards, Minnesota was also the better team at the time with the better outlook, and I doubt he was using it as a stepping stone since Mike Gorman was firmly in place as the TV man. Of course there's other possible reasons for leaving the TV spot like contract not renewed, bad work environment, preferred Boston living to Minneapolis, family situations, etc.  Just seems a little odd to go from TV to radio, and stay in radio for 20+ years if you wanted to do TV.

And if this is because Drew Carter got the job over him, there's probably bit of an odd full circle here, as Grande was the youngest TV broadcaster when he started with the Wolves, surely getting the job over some more seasoned candidates.

I like Grande, prefer him over Carter.

Scalabrine was a much better commentator with Gorman than he is with Carter. Gorman would ask questions to lead Scalabrine to talk about basketball. Carter and Scal just go off into their bro-dude-boy antics-and-joking-around schtick, laughing at each other's "jokes" as if they don't even notice that  there's a game in front of them.

Carter is young, and he only had a half a season of calling games. I thought he did fine, good voice, but big shoes to fill, I'm sure it's a bit nerve wracking.

I'd at least give him a full season before really knowing if he's right for the job. I''m sure Mike and Tommy's first season or two was no wheres the same as season 20.

Some people theorized yesterday even on 98.5 and local radio that Grande could be taking the Bruins job next year.

I liked Carter in the beginning but after a while he sounded to 'announcer boyish'.  Gorman -- Grande, to an extent, both speak TO the listener as opposed to AT them.

The networks like the announcer speak but it's not a great fit locally if you're watching every game. After a while it wears on you.

Scalabrine got a lot better with a few years expreience under his belt. Maybe Carter will too eventaully?
Not sure.

If you listen to some of these other local announcers, a lot of them suck. Makes you realize what we had with Gorman - and Grande who I've always liked.

yep, Scal was pretty rough when he first started. he improved a lot and i do think gorman really helped him out, put him in positions to succeed throughout their broadcasts.

Grande has openly said that the plan was to take over for Gorman. Mike lasted longer than anyone thought he would (including Mike) and by the time he was leaving, they wanted someone else. I do feel bad for Grande there. He also was doing well with MMA commentating and got fired for a bigger name within the sport. He's really one of the best, in my opinion. He deserves a big gig somewhere, I just hope it's in something I follow enough to appreciate it. Unfortunately, I only follow NBA and UFC these days and he seems underappreciated in those two arenas.

Grande started at the bottom. I remember when he was a producer running the board for Business Radio in Boston.

Didn?t Grande make a remark during one of the ECF games about ?and they wonder why I turned down the tv gig? in reference to the fact that local tv broadcasts only do the 1st round?  That would lead me to believe he was offered the position and turned it down
